HCAW registers important victory vs. UVV
Nederlands
VLEUTEN (Neth.) - HCAW left last place in the Play-Downs by winning 9-5 at UVV on Thursday (August 20).

With the win, HCAW is now two points ahead of Mampaey The Hawks, which tonight lost at DSS.

HCAW collected 16 basehits tonight, including four by Emersson Paula and three by Kevin Nieveld. The 16 basehits equals the team's season-high which was accomplished on May 17 in a 13-9 win vs. The Hawks.

(August 20)

After being retired in order in the first inning, HCAW failed to open the score in the second at bat, leaving three runners behind. UVV-starter Ian Delemarre gave up a lead-off single to Rossini Frolijk, walked Kevin Nieveld, then also saw Jarreau Martina single to load the bases. But despite having no outs, HCAW didn't score, as a foul-out, strikeout and flyout followed.

The Bussum-squad then did open the score in the third at bat, scoring three runs. Emersson Paula led off with a single and moved on a sacrifice bunt by Peter van Doesburg, then scored on a double by Roy Seltenrijch. The latter advanced himself to third base when a throwing error followed. Hereafter, Rossini Frolijk walked and Kevin Nieveld delivered a runscoring single. The bases got loaded when Jarreau Martina also singled. With two outs, the third run in the at bat was scored on a single by Rikkert Kempen.

UVV got one run back in its third off of starter Kaj Timmermans. Dennis Ribbens led off with a walk, then the bases got loaded with one out when Gilmer Lampe singled and Dennis De Quint also walked. A single by Omar Williams produced a run, but Lampe was thrown out at the plate when he also tried to score. A strikeout ended the inning, stranding two runners.

HCAW took more distance in the three middle innings, scoring six more runs.

Two runs were added in the fourth. Emersson Paula led off with a single, then Peter van Doesburg doubled and Roy Seltenrijch followed with an RBI-single. Hereafter, Kevin Noordzij took over the pitching for Delemarre. He retired the next two batters, but then loaded the bases by walking Jarreau Martina. A following walk for Gianni Frolijk led to the next Bussum-run. Three runners were then left behind when a flyout ended the at bat.

HCAW rallied for three runs in the fifth inning. With one out and Emersson Paula (fielder's choice) on first base, Peter van Doesburg doubled again. Next batter Roy Seltenrijch then grounded to second base, which ended in a throw to the plate, as Paula took off from third base. But everyone was safe and so, HCAW added a run, while also having a runner on first base. After an infield-fly, Kevin Nieveld connected for a runscoring single. Seltenrijch advanced, then appeared to be eliminated at third base, but an error was made there, enabling him to score the next run and lift the lead to 8-1.

In the sixth, HCAW scored its ninth and final run. With one out, Rikkert Kempen walked, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a 2-out single by Emersson Paula.

UVV reached base several times, but scored only once in its middle innings off of Kaj Timmermans. In the fourth, with two outs, Jordan Illis reached on an error and Dennis Ribbens singled, but were left behind. In the fifth, Gilmer Lampe led off with a single, but HCAW then turned a double play moments later. Hereafter, Omar Williams reached on an error and stranded. In the sixth, with two outs, Illis singled and advanced on a wild pitch. He then scored when a throwing error followed a single by Dennis Ribbens.

In the final three innings, HCAW was held scoreless by relievers Thijs Steenwijk (one inning) and Gilian van Lith (two innings).

UVV left another runner in the seventh off of reliever Tim Niekerk, then scored three runs in the eighth to narrow the deficit to 9-5. Niekerk walked lead-off hitter Norbert Jongerius, then gave up a single to Jamie Verheyleweghen. Pinch-hitter Sam van Dijck followed with an RBI-double, which brought in new pitcher Gijs van Els. The lefthander got two quick outs, but then gave up a 2-run single to Gilmer Lampe. A strikeout ended the inning.

Tony Kreisel pitched the ninth inning for HCAW. He walked a batter with two outs, but he was forced out, ending the game.
