This season, his first in Taiwan, Jurrjens was sidelined twice with an injury, including a groin injury in July. Jurrjens was replaced on the roster by pitcher Darin Downs.

Jair Jurrjens pitched in 17 games this season for the Lions in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) in Taiwan. At the moment of his release, the Lions were in second place of the four-team league.

The 30-year old Jurrjens started 16 games, but completed none. In 90 1/3 inning, Jurrjens struckout 67 batters, walked only 28, but gave up 115 basehits, including 13 homeruns. Jurrjens was 6-7 with a 5.38 ERA.

Jurrjens became the third import player of the Lions and the eleventh in the league to be released this season. The Lions earlier released righthanded pitcher Ryan Kelly, while designated hitter Felix Pie was released due to a fractured ankle.

After signing a professional contract in May 2003 with the Detroit Tigers, Jair Jurrjens went on to pitch in eight Major League-seasons for four different teams. He made his big league-debut in 2007, pitching in seven games for Detroit Tigers. In October 2007, Jurrjens was traded to the Atlanta Braves, where he was successful and for whom he pitched in 119 games (118 starts) in the next five seasons (2008-2012). Jurrjens then became a Free Agent in November 2012.

In 2013 and 2014, the righthander appeared in two more Major League-games in each of those seasons, pitching for respectively Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies. Last year, Jurrjens pitched in Triple-A for the Rockies, then was released in August 2015. In his Major League-career, Jurrjens was 53-38 with a 3.72 ERA. He struckout 514 batters in 767 1/3 inning.

In 2006, Jurrjens pitched for the Netherlands Kingdom Team during the first World Baseball Classic. He returned into an Orange-uniform in November last year during the Premier12 in Taiwan.

Now that he is released, Jurrjens might be available to pitch for the Netherlands Team that will participate in the upcoming European Championship next month in Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep.
