PEORIA / PHOENIX / TEMPE, Arizona / FORT MYERS / KISSIMMEE / LAKELAND / SARASOTA, Florida (USA) - On Monday (March 14), seven professionals with a Dutch passport played in Major League Spring Training-games.

One of them was infielder Gianfranco Wawoe, was assigned to a game of the Seattle Mariners on Friday, but then didn't play. As Minor League-player, he was assigned today to one of the two split-squads of the Mariners as an extra player and this time, he saw some action.

As Spring Training is halfway, Major League-teams are starting to make decisions regarding players on their Major League 40-man roster or players who were invited to be with the team as a so-called non-roster player. Teams are assigning players to Minor League-teams now daily with Opening Day approaching on April 3.

On Monday, catcher Spencer Kieboom was one of the players that left Major League Spring Training-camp. Kieboom was on the 40-man roster of the Washington Nationals, but he has now been optioned to the Harrisburg Senators, which plays in Double-A.

For Kieboom, this is a promotion, as he played in Single-A Advanced in the 2015 season. He then played in 71 games for Potomac Nationals and batted .248 with 30 runs scored and 26 runs batted in.

At Peoria Stadium in Peoria, a split-squad of the Seattle Mariners played at home against the Colorado Rockies, who won 6-4.

In the top of the eighth inning, Gianfranco Wawoe made his first appearance in a Spring Training-game, as he entered the game as new short stop for the Mariners.

Unfortunately for Wawoe, he made a throwing error with one out. However, Wawoe then started an inning-ending double play on the next grounder.

Wawoe also played in two Spring Training-games for the Mariners last year.

At Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim won 10-2 against the Cincinnati Reds. The Angels rallied for six runs in the fifth inning.

Andrelton Simmons today started as designated hitter for the Angels and was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

In the bottom of the first inning, with the Reds leading 1-0, Cliff Pennington and Daniel Nava led off with singles to put runners on first and third base. Hereafter, Simmons grounded into a double play, that enabled Pennington to score the tying run. As the run was scored on a double play-grounder, Simmons was not credited with an RBI.

In the third inning, with runners on first and second base and one out, Simmons popped out into foul territory.

In the fifth inning, Simmons again got to bat with a runner in scoring position. With one out, Pennington singled and Nava walked. This time, Simmons singled that loaded the bases. Hereafter, C.J. Cron also singled to bring in two runs. With two outs, Simmons and Cron scored on a triple by Johnny Giavotella that made it 6-1. A runscoring single by Rafael Ortega and RBI-double by Todd Cunningham completed the 6-run rally.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Simmons was replaced by a pinch-hitter.

At Camelback Ranch-Glendale in Phoenix, the Los Angeles Dodgers scored five runs in the first inning and went on to win 6-2 vs. the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kenley Jansen again got a middle relief-appearance in this game, as were all his other outings during this Spring Training. Sometimes with scores that create a save-situation, sometimes in not such situations. That was the case today, as Jansen pitched the sixth inning with the Dodgers leading 6-0.

The righthander gave up a lead-off single to Domingo Santana, who then stole second base with one out. He then scored when next batter Jonathan Lucroy also singled. While Santana scored, Lucroy tried to advance on the throw to the plate, but was then eliminated at second base. A grounder ended Jansen's stay on the mound today.

At Champion Stadium at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex @ Walt Disney World Resort in Kissimmee, the Atlanta Braves played at home against the Tampa Bay Rays and won 5-0.

In the top of the eighth inning, Ozzie Albies took over as short stop for the Braves, but did't got an at bat.

At Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, the Detroit Tigers won 9-2 against the visiting New York Mets.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Roger Bernadina became the new centerfielder for the Mets.

He got his lone at bat in the eighth inning and then flied out.

At Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, the home-playing Baltimore Orioles trailed 7-4 in the sixth inning, then scored once and added three runs in the eighth to win 8-7.

Jonathan Schoop had a replacement-appearance today, as he took over as second baseman in the top of the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Orioles had runners on first and second base with one out when Schoop stepped into the batter's box. However, he grounded into a double play to end the inning in what was to be his lone at bat in the game.

At Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers, the Boston Red Sox were visited by the Pittsburgh Pirates and lost 3-1. Pittsburgh scored all three runs in the sixth inning.

Xander Bogaerts started as short stop for Boston and was 0-for-3.

With runners on first and third base and one out, he grounded into a double play in the first inning. In the fourth inning and sixth inning, he led off with a flyout.

Bogaerts was then replaced in the top of the seventh inning.
