PHOENIX / TEMPE, Arizona / BRADENTON / FORT MYERS, Florida (USA) - On Monday (March 28), three Dutch professionals got into action during the Major League Spring Training-games.

Also on Monday, Dutch pitcher Loek van Mil was assigned to the team of the Minnesota Twins to be an additional Minor League-pitcher for its road game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. At McKechnie Field in Bradenton, the Twins won 6-4, but Van Mil didn't pitch.

Van Mil earlier pitched during Major League Spring Training in 2011 and 2012 when he was with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In those years, he pitched in seven games, all in relief, and was 1-3.

Van Mil also pitched in Major League Spring Training in 2013 for the Cincinnati Reds. He then appeared in one game and struckout one batter in one inning.

In September last year, Van Mil made his comeback in professional baseball. He played in Japan in 2014, but then returned home to the Netherlands where he pitched for Curaçao Neptunus in the Dutch big league in 2015. However, he then was signed by the Minnesota Twins and made three appearances in Triple-A in September.

With the addition of Loek van Mil, nineteen professionals with a Dutch passport has been in Major League Spring Training so far this year.

At Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, Andrelton Simmons started as the short stop for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and had a productive evening in the home game against the Chicago Cubs. Simmons went 3-for-3 and scored a run in the game, that ended with an 8-8 tie after nine innings.

In the bottom of the second inning, Simmons led off with a single, but was eliminated in a double play.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Angels trailed 5-1, but then rallied for five runs. Mike Trout and Albert Pujols led off the inning with back-to-back homeruns. Hereafter, Kole Calhoun walked and Simmons doubled. Carlos Perez followed with an infield-hit that made it 5-4. Moments later, Geovany Soto struckout in a hit-and-run-situation, as Perez took off to steal second base. On the throw to second base, Simmons took off, stole the plate and scored the tying run. Perez then scored the go-ahead run when next batter Johnny Giavotella reached on a throwing error.

In the bottom of the sixth, Simmons led off with his second double and was then replaced by a pinch-runner.

The Angels trailed 8-6 in the bottom of the ninth, but then came alongside on 2-out singles by Jefry Marte and Craig Gentry.

At Camelback Ranch-Glendale in Phoenix, the Los Angeles Dodgers won 5-4 against the Texas Rangers.

Kenley Jansen pitched 1 1/3 inning for the Dodgers. The righthander struckout one batter and also walked one. Jansen entered the game in the top of the sixth with the score tied at 4-4. He was replaced in the seventh with a runner on second base and one out.

At JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, the Boston Red Sox lost 5-3 at home against the Baltimore Orioles.

Xander Bogaerts started as short stop for Boston and was 0-for-3.
