On Friday, at Adelaide Shores Baseball Complex, Adelaide Bite played against the Emerging All Stars and SABL All-Stars.

The Bite won the first game with a convincing 14-1 score. In this game, 40-year old Taiwanese powerhitter Tai-shan Chang accounted for the first basehit. Isaias Quiroz and Angus Roeger homered for Adelaide.

The second game of the double-header was much closer, but Adelaide won again, this time with a 5-2 score. In this game, Chang delivered a double. Bas Nooij played a fine game for Adelaide and collected three basehits, batting in two runs in the sixth inning to give his team a 4-2 lead. He then scored the fifth run himself.

Nooij made his ABL-debut during the 2016/2017 season. He then played in 13 games for Adelaide, hitting .281 (9-for-32), scored three runs and batted in one.

Before moving to Australia, Nooij played for L&D Amsterdam Pirates in the Dutch big league through 2015. He also played for the Netherlands National Baseball Team and was a member of the squad when it captured the title at the 2011 World Championship in Panama.

Adelaide opens the new season on Friday with a 4-game series against Sydney Blue Sox in Blacktown, near Sydney.

This week, it was announced that the Australian Baseball League is set to expand from six teams to eight teams in the 2018/2019 season.
