Nederlands

KISSIMMEE / JUPITER / FORT MYERS, Florida / PHOENIX, Arizona (USA) - On Wednesday (March 6), four Dutch players got into action in Major League Spring Training.

Ozzie Albies and Ray-Patrick Didder both played for Atlanta Braves and both recorded a basehit. Xander Bogaerts was hitless for Boston Red Sox and Kenley Jansen made his second appearance on the mound for Los Angeles Dodgers.

At Champion Stadium at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the Walt Disney World Resort in Kissimmee (Florida), a split-squad of Atlanta Braves recorded an 8-2 victory at home against Detroit Tigers.

Ozzie Albies started at second base for Atlanta and was 1-for-2.

Albies grounded out in the first inning and he got his second at bat in the third inning. Atlanta then scored four runs to open the score. Lead-off hitter Andres Blanco was hit by a pitch, then Ronald Acuña and Ozzie Albies both singled. All scored when next hitter Freddie Freeman hit a grand slam homerun.

In the fourth, Albies was hit by a pitch and was then replaced out of precaution by pinch-runner Riley Delgado.

At Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter (Florida), another split-squad of Atlanta Braves played at Miami Marlins and won 4-0.

With a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth, Atlanta added two more runs. Austin Riley led off with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Riley Unroe. With one out, Charlie Culberson delivered a double, then was also replaced by a pinch-runner, Luis Valenzuela. The bases then got loaded when Pedro Florimon walked. Ray-Patrick Didder then became the third pinch-runner in this at bat, replacing Florimon. Hereafter, a run was scored when Raffy Lopez walked, which led to a pitching change. The next run was then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan LaMarre.

In the bottom of the sixth, Didder became the new short stop. He got an at bat in the eighth and with one out, he singled, but later stranded on second base. For Didder, it was his second basehit in this Spring Training.

At jetBlue Park at Fenway South in Fort Myers (Florida), Boston Red Sox lost 6-1 at home against Pittsburgh Pirates.

Starting short stop Xander Bogaerts was 0-for-2.

Bogaerts struckout in the second inning and flied out in the fourth. He was replaced in the top of the sixth.

At Camelback Ranch-Glendale in Phoenix (Arizona), Los Angeles Dodgers played at home against Cleveland Indians and lost 6-1.

Kenley Jansen was the third pitcher for Los Angeles in this game and threw the fifth inning. The righthander gave up a lead-off single to Ernie Clement, but a following line drive was then caught by rightfielder Cody Bellinger. Thereafter, Jansen struckout the next two batters.
