Third game HCAW against Quick Amersfoort halted by rain
Nederlands

BUSSUM (Neth.) - The third game of the series between HCAW and Quick Amersfoort could not be completed on Sunday (April 28). With a scoreless tie, the game was halted in the bottom of the third inning due to rain. The game is re-scheduled for Tuesday, April 30.

On Friday-evening, Quick Amersfoort scored early and went on to record a small 3-1 victory at home.

In the opener on Thursday-evening, it was HCAW that took an early lead and nipped Quick Amersfoort 3-2.

Schedule, Standings & Scores

While an overcast predicted some rain, the game went underway as scheduled.

Both teams were retired in order in the first inning, but Quick Amersfoort then got a runner in scoring position in the second at bat off of starter Dennis Burgersdijk. Bryan Engelhardt led off with a single and was awarded second base on a balk with two outs. But he stranded on second base.

After HCAW had left a runner behind on first base in the bottom of the second inning, Quick got a runner on third base in the top of the third. Dakota van der Heyde led off with a walk and he moved on two following grounders. Burgersdijk closed with a strikeout.

In the bottom of the third inning, HCAW got its first runner in scoring position when Berend Ruben led off with a double off of Brian van Laar. He also was the last batter, as the game was interrupted by rain moments later. After having waited for some 30 minutes, the umpiring crew halted the game definitively.

In the meantime, it also has become clear why Head Coach Glenn Romney was not with Quick Amersfoort since the game of last Thursday. On Sunday-afternoon, it was reported that he had stepped down earlier in the week.
