Hoofddorp Pioniers also wins comfortable in second game vs. Storks
Nederlands

THE HAGUE (Neth.) - Hoofddorp Pioniers also recorded a comfortable win in its second exhibition game against Silicon Storks, which was played on Sunday (April 18). After winning 16-3 on Saturday at home, Pioniers won 16-1 on Sunday in The Hague. Although the mercy-rule could have been applied because of the run-difference, a full 9-inning game was played.

Just as in the game on Saturday, Pioniers had a productive day offensively, while Storks made several defensive errors.

A total of 13 different pitchers took the mound in today's game. With that, Home Plate Umpire Bernard Flohr saw a lot of different pitches. Flohr was assisted in the field by Aad Otsen.

Obed Hernandez started for Storks. He was the first of six pitchers for the team of Head Coach Eugene Henson. Hernandez was succeeded on the mound by Twan Naessens, Gedryon Basilia, Joel Martis, Renaigel Martis and Kevin van Veen.

Yassir Lachkar was the starter for Hoofddorp Pioniers. He threw two innings, as did his successor Lars Broersen. In each of the next five innings, Head Coach Mervin Gario sent a new pitcher to the mound. That were respectively Sebastian Kok, Sem Lauf, Nick Winkel, Reangelo Willems and John Michael Halley. Winkel and Halley pitched for Storks last season. Lauf also last pitched for Storks, but he did it in the 2019 season. Last year, he was on the roster of Pioniers, but was sidelined the entire season with an injury.

From coming Thursday-evening on, Hoofddorp Pioniers will participate in the annual In Memoriam Charles Urbanus Sr. Tournament. The event has a different set-up this year, as it is currently not allowed to organize tournaments due to the measures against the coronavirus (COVID-19). In a normal scenario, all six games of the tournament would have been played at the site of HCAW in Bussum. Now, the participating teams will also play a game on their own home-site. HCAW is the lone team that will play all three games at home. Pioniers meets HCAW on Thursday in a home-game, which will be played at HCAW's site in Bussum. Pioniers then plays at home in Hoofddorp on Saturday against L&D Amsterdam Pirates and travels to Rotterdam on Sunday to play against Curaçao Neptunus.

Storks will play two games coming weekend against Quick Amersfoort, Saturday at home and Sunday in Amersfoort.
