Olympia Haarlem wins twice against Terrasvogels
Nederlands

HAARLEM (Neth.) - League-leader FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem won both games of its double-header against Terrasvogels on Saturday (August 5). In the opener, Olympia Haarlem recorded a 7-0 shutout, then won 7-2 in the next match-up. Terrasvogels now has lost its last five consecutive games.

In the opener, Ilona Andringa gave up only three hits and became the first 10-game winner of the season. Since 2011, Olympia has had at least one 10-game winner in its pitching-staff each year. In these seven seasons, the pitcher with the most wins was Lindsey Meadows, who won 18 games for Olympia Haarlem in 2013.

In today's double-header, Dinet Oosting batted in four runs and scored three for Olympia Haarlem, while collecting four basehits. Besides being the league's leading hitter with a .534 batting average, she also leads in slugging percentage (.808), on-base percentage (.604), runs scored (36), basehits (39) and runs batted in (35).

Terrasvogels still had to do this weekend without pitcher Dani Bonnet, who is currently unavailable due to study-commitments. From today on, the team also has to do without infielder Suka Van Gurp, who has returned again to the USA to continue her college-education.

A double-steal attempt followed, but that led to the elimination of Krijgsman at third base. When next batter Brenda Beers singled, a pitching change followed. Terrasvogels returned to ten players and Femke Duffhues re-entered as pitcher. She gave up a 2-run double to Dinet Oosting and with two outs, Shareday Christina added another runscoring single. An error on a fly by Stephanie Pearce increased the lead to 7-0.

In the remainder of the game, Olympia Haarlem was held scoreless by the Terrasvogels-pitching, despite getting some more runners in scoring position. In the fourth inning, a runner was left behind on second base. In the fifth, the home team left runners behind on second and third base. In the sixth, Dinet Oosting tripled with one out, but reliever Micaela Whitney then struckout the next two batters.

Trailing 7-0, Terrasvogels got one run back in the fourth at bat. Ella Krommendijk walked and Kimberly Jones singled. In a double-steal attempt, Krommendijk was caught stealing, but later Jones scored on a 2-out single by Gabi Obia.
