Olympia Haarlem adds two more victories

HAARLEM (Neth.) - League-leader FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem added two more victories on Saturday (June 10), winning 4-1 and 6-3 against Roef!.

With the double victory, Olympia Haarlem is closing in on qualification for the Play-Offs that will follow the regular season. The top-4 of the season will face each other again in the Play-Offs. The two best teams then will meet in the best-of-three Holland Series.

In today's double-header, Olympia Haarlem was outhit in both games.

In the opener, Olympia Haarlem collected six hits and scored all four runs in the first inning. Roef! registered eight basehits.

In the second game, Roef! outhit Olympia 11-6. Wies Ligtvoet, Kim Donkers and Isa Los all had three hits for Roef! The home team again took an early lead and led 6-0 after five innings.

Olympia Haarlem vs. Roef! (game one)
Olympia Haarlem scored all runs they needed in the first inning off of Marjolein Merkx, who went the distance for Roef!

Lead-off hitter Brenda Beers was hit by a pitch and stole second base, then scored when next batter Dinet Oosting doubled. Jessie van Aalst followed with a runscoring single, then Mariëlle Vleugels walked. After the two runners had advanced on a grounder by Shareday Christina, they both scored on a 2-out single by Emma Wójcik. Merkx closed the at bat with a strikeout, but Roef! trailed 4-0 and would be unable to turn the game around in its favor.

In the remainder of the game, Olympia Haarlem would get into scoring position only two more times.

In the second at bat, Maranca Ham led off with a single and Dinet Oosting walked with one out, but the Roef!-defense then turned a double play. In the fourth, Stephanie Pearce tripled with one out, but was left behind.

Olympia, which was retired in order in the third and fifth at bat, got on base again in the sixth. Amber Krijgsman then led off with a single, but was caugt stealing, then the next two batters were retired.

Ilona Andringa went the distance for Olympia Haarlem, gave up eight hits. Roef! left seven runners behind, six of them in scoring position.

Roef! got into scoring position first in the top of the first inning. Wies Ligtvoet led off the game with a bunt-single, advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt, but was left there. In the second, Eva van Knegsel and Britt Remmers (who recently returned from her college-season in the States) both opened with singles. The bases got loaded when Charlotte Haen singled with one out, but the three runners were left behind when an infield-fly and pop-fly followed. In the third, Isa Los singled with two outs, stole second base, but also stranded.

In the fourth, Roef! scored its lone run. With one out, Naftely Pietersz singled. With two outs, Maureen van Poorten reached on a bunt-single, which was followed by a throwing error. That enabled Pietersz to score and brought Van Poorten to third base, but she also was left.

In the fifth, Roef! got into scoring position for the fifth consecutive inning. Cindy van der Zanden led off with an infield-hit, moved on a sacrifice bunt and then was left behind.

Ilona Andringa then retired the side in the final two innings, striking out three of the six batters to record her seventh victory of the season.

Olympia Haarlem vs. Roef! (game two)
In the second game, Roef! outhit Olympia Haarlem 11-6. Despite recording five more basehits than its opponent, Roef! trailed 6-0 after five innings and scored its three runs in the final two innings. In those at bats, Roef! hit six of their eleven hits. Roef!-starter Mikayla Endicott struckout nine batters, but also walked six.

Roef! threatened to open the score in the top of the first inning off of Mariëlle Vleugels, as it got the bases loaded with two outs. Vleugels retired the first two batters, but then got the bases loaded when Kim Donkers, Isa Los and Eva van Knegsel all singled. Donkers and Van Knegsel reached on infield-hits. The three runners were left behind when a grounder ended the at bat.

Moments later, Olympia Haarlem scored twice in its first at bat off of Mikayla Endicott. Brenda Beers walked, stole second base and scored on a following single by Dinet Oosting, who also went on to steal second base. Hereafter, Jessie van Aalst reached on an error. With one out, Van Aalst and Oosting executed a double-steal and when a throwing error followed, Oosting scored to make it a 2-0 score.

From the second to fifth inning, Roef! reached base only twice, with one runner getting into scoring position.

Olympia Haarlem added a run in the third inning. With one out, Dinet Oosting walked and scored when Jessie van Aalst tripled. A walk for Mariëlle Vleugels followed, but Mikayla Endicott then closed with two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fifth, Olympia Haarlem rallied for three runs to increase the lead to 6-0. Dinet Oosting led off with a single, then stole second and third base. After Jessie van Aalst walked, Mariëlle Vleugels delivered a runscoring single. The next run was scored on a bunt-single by Tomoko Goda and a grounder by Emma Wójcik brought in the third run in this at bat.

Trailing 6-0, Roef! scored its first two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Kim Donkers led off with a double, then her pinch-runner Kim Horsten moved to third base on a single by Isa Los. They then respectively scored on an one-out single by Sophie Mollee and a sacrifice fly by Maureen van Poorten.

After Olympia stranded two runners in its sixth at bat, Roef! scored one more run in the seventh. Wies Ligtvoet then tripled with one out and scored on a 2-out single by Kim Donkers.
