Olympia Haarlem outscores Roef! twice
Nederlands

MOERGESTEL (Neth.) - League-leader FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem added two more victories on Saturday (August 12), winning 7-4 and 10-2 against fourth-placed Roef!. In the opener, Roef! led 3-1 after five innings, but failed to hold onto it.

In today's double-header, there were multiple defensive and offensive changes. Head Coaches Jeroen Swers (Roef!) and Stanley Doney (Olympia Haarlem) are known for making several changes during a game. Doney used 16 different players in both games. In today's double-header, the two coaches combined on 12 offensive changes and 22 defensive changes.

The double loss for Roef! almost surely will set up a decisive final double-header against Tex Town Tigers on Saturday, September 2, the final day of the regular season for both teams. That double-header will decide who will become the fourth and final team to reach the Play-Offs.

Olympia Haarlem was joined today in the Play-Offs by reigning champion Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem and finalist Terrasvogels, who last year faced each other in the Holland Series. The two teams again secured a spot in this years top-4 after winning their first game today against respectively DSS and Tex Town Tigers. With the loss, DSS was eliminated for the Play-Offs, meaning only Roef! and Tex Town Tigers are left over.

For Roef!, today's games were important. With two victories, it would have qualified for the Play-Offs. With one victory, qualification would not have been secured, but Roef! would be very close.

Tex Town Tigers, which is in fifth place, has four games remaining and still can end up in fourth place. On Sunday, TTT plays against the winless Talent Team Holland. When TTT records two victories, it will set up an all-deciding final series against Roef! on Saturday, September 2.

After this weekend, the season will be interrupted (again) for the upcoming European Cup Tournaments. Olympia Haarlem and DSS wil travel to Italy for the European Cup Winners Cup Tournament, which will be played in Caserta. Terrasvogels and Dutch champion Sparks Haarlem will participate in the European Premiere Cup Tournament in Haarlem (Netherlands). Both events will open on Monday, August 21 and close on Saturday, August 26. Last year, Sparks Haarlem and Olympia Haarlem won the Premiere Cup and Cup Winners Cup, respectively.

Roef! vs. FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem (game one)
In today's opener, Roef! took an early lead in the first inning, led 3-0 after three innings and 3-1 after five, but ended up empty-handed. Olympia Haarlem turned the game its way with a 5-run rally in the sixth inning.

Olympia Haarlem had eight basehits, including two doubles by Jessie van Aalst, who also scored twice and batted in a run. Tomohiko Goda also had two basehits and batted in two runs, while scoring once. For Roef!, Wies Ligtvoet, Cindy van der Zanden and Isa Los also had two basehits.

In the top of the first inning, Olympia Haarlem got into scoring position first. With one out, Dinet Oosting walked and stole second base. She then also tried to steal third base, but was eliminated in a rundown.

Roef! then opened the score in the bottom of the first inning off of Ilona Andringa, but also left three runners behind. The righthander hit lead-off hitter Wies Ligtvoet with a pitch, then gave up a bunt-single to Cindy van der Zanden. The two moved on a sacrifice bunt by Kim Donkers and Isa Los followed with a runscoring single. With two outs, the bases got loaded when Andringa also hit Eva van Knegsel with a pitch, but she then closed with a strikeout.

After leaving a runner on second base in the second at bat, Roef! added two runs in the third inning. Kim Donkers led off with a single and Isa Los walked. With one out, a throwing error was made on a sacrifice bunt by Eva van Knegsel, resulting in a run and runners on first and third base. On a following sacrifice bunt by Britt Remmers, it was attempted to eliminate Los at the plate, but she scored to make it a 3-0 score. Hereafter, two runners were left behind.

Roef!-starter Mikayla Endicott retired the side in the second and third inning, but then gave up a run in the fourth. With one out, Dinet Oosting singled, moved to third base on a double by Jessie van Aalst, then scored on a grounder by Mariëlle Vleugels.

In the fifth inning, Olympia Haarlem was retired in order again, but in the sixth, trailing 3-1, it turned the game its way by scoring five runs. In the at bat, Olympia's Head Coach Stanley Doney made several offensive changes. Doney, who is known for making multiple changes, today used 16 different players in both the first and the second game. Brenda Beers led off with a bunt-single and stole second base. After moving to third base on a grounder, she scored when Jessie van Aalst doubled again. Mariëlle Vleugels followed with a triple to make it a 3-3 score and was replaced by pinch-runner Eva Voortman. Hereafter, Shareday Christina walked and Tomohiko Goda followed with a runscoring infield-hit that put Olympia Haarlem ahead, 4-3. As Goda's hit was followed by a throwing error, Olympia got runners on second and third base. A wild pitch then enabled Christina to score and another run was added when pinch-hitter Rosanne de Vries reached on an error to make it a 6-3 score. That also led to a pitching change, as Gini Ketelaars took over.

Roef!, which had left a runner on second base in the fourth inning and another one on first base in the fifth, got one run back in the sixth. With one out, Wies Ligtvoet reached on a bunt-single, moved when Kim Donkers was hit by a pitch with two outs, then scored on a single by Isa Los. A force out ended the at bat.

Olympia Haarlem added an insurance run in the top of the seventh off of Ketelaars. With two outs, Jessie van Aalst walked and Eva Voortman singled, which led to runners on second and third base. Mikayla Endicott then returned as pitcher and loaded the bases by issuing an intentional walk to Shareday Christina. Tomohiko Goda followed with a runscoring single. That brought in Van Aalst, but Voortman overran third base and was eliminated to end the inning.

Mariëlle Vleugels closed the game for Olympia Haarlem. She gave up a lead-off single to Eva van Knegsel, but then retired the next three batters to end the game.

Amber Krijgsman and Emma Wójcik both reached on a bunt-single, which led to runners at the corners. With one out, Wójcik also moved into scoring position via fielder's indifference. Pinch-hitter Masha Meloni was hit by a pitch and Brenda Beers walked, then respectively scored on a double by Dinet Oosting and a sacrifice fly by Jessie van Aalst, which also was followed by a throwing error. With one out and Oosting on third base, Manon van Alebeek took over the pitching from Gini Ketelaars. She was greeted with back-to-back, RBI-doubles from Eva Voortman and Rachel van Veen that increased the lead to 10-0. Olympia got another baserunner when Stephanie Pearce reached on an error. An attempt to score on a wild pitch led to an out at the plate. Another wild pitch brought Pearce to third base and Amber Krijgsman then walked, but she was forced out moments later to end the inning.
