Terrasvogels and DSS outscore each other
Nederlands

SANTPOORT-ZUID (Neth.) - Terrasvogels and DSS split their double-header on Saturday (July 15), as the season resumed in the Golden League.

The season was interrupted after games played on June 17 and 18 for the European Championship in Bollate (Italy). That event ended on Saturday, July 1 with the Netherlands Softball Team capturing the title by winning the Final against Italy with a 7-1 score. There also were no games scheduled in the highest league in the weekend of July 8 and 9.

In today's opener, Terrasvogels led only 2-1 halfway the sixth inning, but then rallied for six runs to reach a 7-run difference, win 8-1 and finish the game via the mercy-rule. The game ended on a walk-off, 2-run triple by Katharina Szalay. The lone DSS-run was a homerun by Denice van Dijk. Winning pitcher Micaela Whitney struckout nine batters and gave up only three hits.

In the second game, DSS recorded a 5-0 shutout on nine basehits. Winning pitcher Dagmar Bloeming struckout nine batters and gave up five hits, including three by Katharina Szalay.

In the second game, DSS decided the game early, scoring four runs in the first three innings. Dagmar Bloeming had a fine outing for DSS, struckout nine batters, gave up only five hits and held Terrasvogels scoreless.

DSS opened the score with one run with two outs in the top of the first inning off of starter Femke Duffhues. Noa Brand led off with a single and moved on a grounder by Areke Spel and a single by Sophie Bugter. She then was eliminated when she was off base on a grounder by Denice van Dijk. Hereafter, DSS got the bases loaded when Feline Poot walked. The first run was scored when former Terrasvogels-player Lisa Waasdorp singled. Bugter scored, but the inning ended when Van Dijk was eliminated at the plate when she also tried to score on Waasdorp's hit.

DSS added two runs in the second at bat, again scoring with two outs. Melissa de Greef and Noa Brand then singled and both scored on a following double by Areke Spel, which led to a pitching change. Micaela Whitney took over and got an inning-ending comeback-grounder.

In the third, DSS added an unearned run. With one out, Feline Poot walked and Lisa Waasdorp was hit by a pitch. The two advanced on two consecutive passed balls, resulting in a run to lift the lead to 4-0.

Terrasvogels got into scoring position in the first inning off of Dagmar Bloeming. Katharina Szalay led off with a single, moved on a sacrifice bunt, but stranded on second base. Szalay reached base again in third via a bunt-single with two outs, but this time, she was forced out.

After Micaela Whitney had retired the side in the fourth and fifth inning, Terrasvogels got close to a run in the bottom of the fifth. Pinch-hitter Dervisa Mutic led off with a triple. Dagmar Bloeming followed with a strikeout, then Mutic was eliminated at the plate trying to score on a grounder by Sanne Korpel. Moments later, Katharina Szalay connected for her third basehit in the game, but Bloeming closed with a strikeout.

DSS added another run in the top of the sixth to make it a 5-0 score. With two outs, Lorraine Kieft doubled and scored when Melissa de Greef tripled.

In the bottom of the sixth, Terrasvogels left two runners behind in scoring position. With one out, Suka Van Gurp singled and Ella Krommendijk reached on an error. The two moved on a passed ball. But with runners on second and third base, Dagmar Bloeming followed with a strikeout, then a grounder ended the at bat. In the bottom of the seventh, the righthander retired the side, including two strikeouts, to end the game.
