DSS and Roef! shutout each other; Bloeming throws No-Hitter
Nederlands

HAARLEM (Neth.) - DSS and Roef! both opened the new season in the Golden League with a double loss a week ago, but on Saturday (April 22), both teams recorded their first win. And they shutout each other. DSS won the opener with a 5-0 score, then Roef! won the second game, 4-0.

In the first game, Dagmar Bloeming threw a complete game No-Hitter. Through the years, the veteran righthander has pitched several No-Hitters, including a combined one last year on April 23 against Twins. Bloeming threw two No-Hitters in 2015 and three in 2012 in which she also threw in a combined No-Hitter. All these game were mercy-rule shortened games. Dagmar Bloeming threw her last complete game, 7-inning, No-Hitter, on April 21, 2012 against Alcmaria Victrix when she pitched for Sparks Haarlem. Back then, she struckout nine batters in a 7-0 shutout. Today, Bloeming struckout 12 batters. There was one player today, who also witnessed the No-Hitter in 2012 and then also played for the winning team. That is Areke Spel, who was the centerfielder in both games.

The last complete game, 7-inning, No-Hitter at the highest level was pitched on July 11, 2015 by Malou van Dusschoten when Terrasvogels won 3-0 vs. Tex Town Tigers.

DSS-pitcher Dagmar Bloeming retired the first seven batters she faced, then walked rookie Sophie Verdaasdonk with one out in the third at bat. She was forced out on a grounder by Ilse van Kerkoerle, who was then caught stealing. Bloeming allowed only three batters to reach base and threw her first 7-inning No-Hitter since 2012.

In the fourth, after striking out the first two batters, Bloeming walked Kim Donkers and saw Eva van Knegsel reach on an error. Both stranded when the righthander closed with another strikeout. Donkers was the lone player of Roef! to get into scoring position in this game.

After Van Knegsel had reached, Dagmar Bloeming retired the next ten batters in a row, including seven of them with a strikeout.

In the bottom of the first inning, DSS opened the score with two runs off of Mikayla Endicott. Lead-off hitter Noa Brand reached on an error and Morgan Sampson reached on a bunt-single. With one out, the bases got loaded when Areke Spel walked and two runs were scored when next batter Sophie Bugter doubled.

In the following innings, DSS got several runners in scoring position, but was unable to take more distance. In the second inning, Noa Brand (single) and Morgan Sampson (walk) again reached base, but this time were left behind. DSS got a runner on third base in the third inning, Areke Spel led off with a walk, stole second base and advanced on a throwing error, but stranded on third base. In the fourth, it was Lorraine Kieft who led off with a walk and moved on a sacrifice bunt by Melissa de Greef, but then was left behind.

In the fifth at bat, DSS got the bases loaded. Lisa Waasdorp led off with a bunt-single, Areke Spel reached on an error and with one out, Denice van Dijk walked. Hereafter, Mikayla Endicott struckout the next two batters.

DSS was then more successful in the sixth inning and added three runs. With one out, the bases got loaded when Noa Brand walked, Morgan Sampson's force play-grounder ended in an error and Lisa Waasdorp was hit by a pitch. A single by Areke Spel led to a run and a pitching change. Gini Ketelaars took over and saw DSS add two more runs on a walk for Sophie Bugter and a sacrifice fly by Denice van Dijk.

Dagmar Bloeming returned as starting pitcher for DSS in the second game. This time, she gave up three basehits and two unearned runs, as opponent Roef! recorded its first win in the highest league. Marjolein Merkx went the distance for Roef! and gave up five basehits.

Bloeming retired the first eight batters she faced, then gave up an infield-hit to Gini Ketelaars, but a grounder ended the at bat.

DSS then got a chance to open the score. In the bottom of the second, Areke Spel led off with a walk, stole second base and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt. She then was tagged out by 3B Naftely Pietersz on a grounder by Denice van Dijk, who herself would strand on second base. In the third, DSS left runners behind on first and second base.

Roef! opened the score in the fourth inning. With two outs, Eva van Knegsel reached on an error and Isa Los singled. A single by Manon van Alebeek plus a following outfield-error enabled both runners to score.

After DSS had left another runner in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth, Roef! added a run in the fifth off of new pitcher Svenja de Lincel. She walked lead-off hitter Charlotte Haen, then her pinch-runner Maureen van Poorten stole second base, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Wies Ligtvoet.

In both the fifth and sixth inning, DSS left two more runners. Roef! scored another run in the seventh. Gini Ketelaars led off with a walk. Quincey Catsburg then took off the DSS-pitching, but enabled Ketelaars to advance to second base with a wild pitch. She then moved when Ilse van Kerkoerle reached on an error and scored on a single by Kim Donkers.

Marjolein Merkx retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to seal the first win of Roef! in the Golden League-win.
