Roef! moves into top-4 after two wins against Talent Team
Nederlands

MOERGESTEL (Neth.) - After splitting its double-header against Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem on Saturday, Roef! won its double-header against the Talent Team Holland on Sunday (April 30). Roef! won 7-0 and 8-1 and ended both games via the mercy-rule.

The Talent Team now has lost all six games it has played so far and all games ended via the run-difference mercy-rule.

With the double victory, Roef! moved into the top-4 and now shares third place with Tex Town Tigers that today split against Sparks Haarlem.

A rare all-women official crew was assigned to this double-header, including two from Belgium and two from the Netherlands. The Umpires were Bianca Dweelaard and Britt Nielandt, while Brendy De Smet and Karin Pieneman were the Official Scorers. Nielandt and De Smet are the Belgian officials, who are active in the highest Dutch league.

Roef! vs. Talent Team Holland (game one)
In the opener, Roef! couldn't really take some distance and led only 2-0 after four innings. The team then rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to reach the mercy-rule 7-run difference.

After Roef-starter Mikayla Endicott had struckout the side in the top of the first inning, her teammates opened the score moments later. Roef! scored one run, but it could have been more. Lead-off hitter Wies Ligtvoet was hit by a pitch from starter Nicole van Eijl. She then stole second base and scored on a following single by Kim Donkers, who moved on a grounder. Donkers then tried to score on a single by Manon van Alebeek, but was eliminated at the plate on a nice throw from centerfielder Yindi Beekveldt to catcher Rhowan Stuart. Hereafter, an error was made on a grounder by Eva va Knegsel and the two runners moved to second and third base on a passed ball. They were left behind, as Van Eijl closed the inning with a strikeout.

The Talent Team was retired in order again in the second inning and then Roef! left two more runners behind in the home half of the inning. Lead-off hitter Sophie Verdaasdonk singled, stole second base and moved on a passed ball, but then (with one out) was eliminated trying to score on a squeeze-bunt to the pitcher by Gini Ketelaars. Wies Ligtvoet followed with a single, then Lisa Hop became the new pitcher. Another comeback-grounder led to the next out. Kim Donkers grounded to Hop, who tried to force out Ketelaars at third base, but everyone was safe. When the ball was thrown to first base hereafter, Ketelaars tried to score, but then was eliminated after all.

In the top of the third inning, with two outs, Rose Mwaro hit the lone basehit for the Talent Team. She stole second base, but then stranded.

Roef! added its second run in the fourth. Isa Los led off with a single, advanced on a throwing error and scored when another throwing error followed on a sacrifice bunt by Sophie Verdaasdonk.

In the bottom of the fifth, Roef! scored five runs to reach the 7-run difference. The bases got loaded when Kim Donkers led off with a single, Cindy van der Zanden walked and a force play-grounder by Manon van Alebeek ended in an error. A pitching change and five defensive changes followed. New pitcher Myrthe Kesseler walked Eva van Knegsel, which led to a run, then a wild pich accounted for the next run. A sacrifice fly by Isa Los and a single by Sophie Verdaasdonk lifted the lead to 6-0. The bases got loaded again when Naftely Pietersz reached on an error and Maureen van Poorten singled. Hereafter, Van Poorten was forced out on a grounder by Wies Ligtvoet, but that also brought in the seventh run and ended the game.

Roef! v. Talent Team Holland (game two)
In the second game, Roef! struck with four runs in the bottom of the first inning off of starter Sanne Debognies to more or less decide the game early. With one out, Kim Donkers and Isa Los singled, then the bases got loaded when an error was made on a force play-grounder by Manon van Alebeek. Eva van Knegsel followed with a 2-run single. The bases were re-loaded when Naftely Pietersz walked and this time, it was Charlotte Haen who delivered a 2-run single.

In the second inning, the Talent Team scored its lone run of the day. The run also is only its third in six games. Uchenna Jong Loy led off with a single. When next batter Rhowan Stuart also singled, she tried to advance to third base, but was eliminated there. Stuart moved to second base on the throw, then reached third base when Charlotte Drijvers connected for the third consecutive basehit. Stuart then scored on a grounder by Britt Amersfoort, but Drijvers stranded on third base.

Roef! added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning off of new pitcher Roos-Marijn Kramer. With one out, Kim Donkers singled and scored on a following triple by Isa Los. The bases got loaded hereafter when both Manon van Alebeek and Eva van Knegsel walked. With two outs, Los scored the next run on a passed ball.

In the top of the third, the Talent Team got runners on second and third base, but was unable to score. With two outs, Lisa Hop and Feline Poot both singled, but were left at second and third base, as starter Marjolein Merkx closed with a strikeout.

Roef! then increased the lead to 8-1 in its third at bat. With one out, Maureen van Poorten walked and Kim Donkers singled. Both scored when Isa Los hit her second triple in the game. On Saturday, Annemiek Jansen, her former teammate at Tex Town Tigers, had become the first player this season to hit two triples in one game.

The runs also were the last ones in this game. Judith van den Berg pitched the final two innings for Roef! In her big league-debut, she retired the side in the fourth inning. In the fifth, she walked pinch-hitter Rose Mwaro, but hereafter, a bunt by Yindi Beekveldt ended in a double play.
