Twins Oosterhout wins twice against Talent Team Holland
Nederlands

OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - It was still cold, but the weather conditions were somewhat better than the day before on Sunday (April 14). Today, Twins Oosterhout played its second double-header of the season.

In the openers on Saturday, Twins lost twice against Tex Town Tigers. Today, the team won twice against the Talent Team Holland, which played its first games.

In the first game today, an extra inning was needed, as Twins won 5-2 in eight innings. In the second game, Twins recorded a mercy-rule, 10-3 victory in 4½ innings.

This season, the Talent Team will play only one double-header against the eight Golden League-teams. Last season, there was a home and away double-header. In this years double-header, the Talent Team is the home team in the first game, then the away team in the next one. As always, the games will be played on the site of its opponent.

Schedule, Standings & Scores

Game 1

With two outs in the top of the first inning, Twins Oosterhout got two baserunners when Minke Blok singled and Sterre den Duijn walked, but they were left behind. Moments later, the Talent Team Holland opened the score in the bottom of the first inning off of starting pitcher Sterre den Duijn. Yindi Beekveldt led off with a bunt-single, advanced on a wild pitch, stole third base and scored on a grounder from next batter Nina Oomes.

Twins came alongside in the top of the second inning off of Margot van Eijl. Like in the first inning, the team got on base with two outs. This time, Tess Remmers singled and Anne Ketelaar reached on an error, which led to runners on first and third base. When Ketelaar stole second base, Remmers scored the tying run on the throw. Twins came close to taking the lead moments later. Imane Alou Issa singled and Ketelaar reached third base, but overran the base and was eliminated to end the inning.

In the third inning, Twins reached third base again. With one out, Minke Blok singled, stole second, advanced on a wild pitch, but then was left behind.

In the top of the fifth, Twins broke the 1-1 tie off of new pitcher Isanthe Rouwenhorst. With one out, Imane Alou Issa walked, then stole second and third base. With two outs, she scored on a single by Minke Blok.

The Talent Team also scored again in its fifth at bat. Nicky Uytendaal led off with a single, stole second base, then moved to third base on a sacrifce bunt by Laura Axson. Hereafter, British righthander Carling Hare took over the Twins-pitching, but she began with a wild pitch that enabled Uytendaal to score the tying run. With the score now at 2-2, pinch-hitter Amy-Lynn Felix reached on an error and also stole second base, but she was left behind.

Both teams got into scoring position in the next two innings, but were unable to score.

For Twins, Danielle ten Donkelaar singled with one out in the sixth inning, but stranded on second base. And in the seventh, Anne Ketelaar led off with a double, but was left behind on third base.

For the Talent Team, Esmee Toet led off the sixth inning with a triple, but the next three batters were retired.

And so, the game went into extra innings. Twins then struck with three runs in the top of the eighth off of Esmee Toet, who had taken over the pitching in the previous at bat. Tie-break runner Minke Blok scored when an outfield-error followed a single by Sterre den Duijn, who also was able to score herself on the error. With two outs, Machteld Rector (single) scored on a single by Tess Remmers to make it a 5-2 score.

Game 2

In the second game, Twins Oosterhout struck with two 5-run rallies in the first and third inning to decide the outcome.

In the bottom of the first inning, Twins scored quickly. Lead-off hitter Imane Alou Issa walked, then Tess Remmers singled. After a double-steal, a run was scored when Minke Blok reached on an error. When Blok was forced out on a grounder by Sterre den Duijn, another run was scored. Singles by Danielle ten Donkelaar and Ellinor Keepers accounted for the next two runs. Hereafter, the bases got loaded when Sara Riou also singled. Moments later, the fifth run was scored on a passed ball. Two runners were left behind, but Twins had taken a comfortable lead.

The Talent Team made some fine defensive plays in the second inning. Tess Remmers led off for Twins with a walk. However, she was eliminated at first base to complete a double play when next batter Minke Blok's line drive was caught by short stop Esmee Toet. With two outs, Sterre den Duijn singled, stole second, then tried to score on a deep infield-hit by Danielle ten Donkelaar, but was eliminated at the plate.

The Talent Team then narrowed the deficit to 5-2 in the third inning. Julia van der Meer led off with a double, stole third base with one out and scored on a single by Reganied Franka. The latter also stole second base, advanced on a grounder, then scored the second run on a single by Nicky Uytendaal.

Twins answered with another 5-run rally in the bottom of the third. Corine Ammerlaan and Ellinor Keepers led off with walks and with one out, the bases got loaded when Anne Ketelaar reached on an infield-hit. Imane Alou Issa followed with a runscoring single and with two outs, the next run was added when Minke Blok walked. Hereafter, the bases were cleared when Sterre den Duijn delivered a 3-run double to lift the lead to 10-2.

The Talent Team was able to add another run in the fourth. Lisa Meyering led off with a double, moved with one out on an infield-hit by Lieke Süskind, then scored on a single by Julia van der Meer. But the team was unable to avoid a mercy-rule loss, as the game ended with a 7-run difference after 4½ innings.
