Big victories Amsterdam Pirates & Neptunus
Nederlands
VLEUTEN / ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - League-leaders DOOR Neptunus and L&D Amsterdam Pirates both registered big victories on Thursday-evening in make-up games. First placed Neptunus won 12-2 vs. ADO Lakers and second placed Amsterdam Pirates won with a huge 22-3 score at UVV. The starting pitchers gave up no runs, but the opponents then scored their runs on the relievers.

Both games rained out last Tuesday after they also rained out on Saturday. On Tuesday, the game between Neptunus and ADO Lakers initially was postponed for 30 minutes, but never started. The meeting between UVV and Amsterdam Pirates went underway as scheduled, then got in a rain-delay in the top of the third inning with the score tied at 1-1 and never was resumed.

UVV vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates
At Vleuten, L&D Amsterdam Pirates scored 22 runs in five innings to win 22-3 in a 7-inning game at UVV. Amsterdam Pirates already led 12-0 after two innings. In the first two at bats, all players in the Amsterdam line-up had scored at least once, except Roelie Henrique, and all players had hit at least one basehit, except Bas Nooij. In the end, Pirates collected 25 basehits, including four by Wesley Connor and Rashid Gerard. Connor went 4-for-4 with two homeruns, scored four runs and had seven runs batted in. Gerard went 4-for-5 with three doubles. He scored twice and also had two RBI's.

Amsterdam's 25 basehits are a season-high, as are the eleven doubles the team hit tonight. The 22 runs scored are second-best to Vaessen Pioniers, who scored 24 against Mampaey The Hawks on July 28.

Seven Amsterdam-players combined on eleven doubles. Besides the three by Gerard, Roelie Henrique and Bas Nooij both hit two.

UVV already had used three pitchers when the third inning began and entered its fourth when the fourth at bat started. Ian Delemarre started for UVV. After lead-off hitter Roelie Henrique flied out, the righthander gave up four consecutive basehits, including a 2-run double by Wesley Connor. Later in the at bat, Kevin Weijgertse contributed with a 3-run double, then scored the sixth run in the at bat when Rashid Gerard also doubled. That marked the end for Delemarre, who was replaced by Jurjen van Zijl. The inning then ended when Henrique also flied out in his second at bat.

Amsterdam had another 6-run rally in the second inning. Björn Hato and Percy Isenia led off with singles, then scored on a triple by Bas de Jong. With two outs, Jesse Aussems doubled and scored on a single by Weijgertse, followed by back-to-back doubles. First, Gerard doubled in a run. Next, rookie Gillian Lith took over the pitching for Van Zijl and gave up an RBI-double to Henrique that made it 12-0.

In the third, Wesley Connor hit a 3-run homerun that lifted the lead to 15-0. Lefthander Jerremyh Angela became UVV's fourth pitcher when the fourth inning began. He threw a scoreless at bat, but then was replaced in the fifth when rightfielder Mike Bazuin climbed the mound. He gave up two runs in the fifth on a 2-out homerun by Connor and a single by Aussems.

A 5-run rally followed in the sixth inning. Back-to-back doubles by Gerard and Henrique opened the at bat, then Koen Nooij was hit by a pitch. Duko Jansen, UVV's closer, was then brought in to face pinch-hitter Patrick Bok, but the rookie also singled. After a sac-fly by Bas de Jong, the bases got loaded, then Bas Nooij doubled to bring in three runs and lifted the lead to 22-0.

UVV then scored its three runs in the remaining two innings. Rob Cordemans started and gave up two hits in five innings, then was relieved by Ben Grover in the sixth. The latter then gave up two runs on three basehits, including RBI-singles by Stijn van der Meer and Niels Peels. In the seventh, Kyle Ward became the new pitcher. The lefthander gave up a lead-off double to Joris van Ballegooy, who then scored on a following single by Rossini Frolijk. Pinch-hitter Jordan Illis then also singled, but next Pirates turned a double play and ended with a strikeout.

DOOR Neptunus vs. ADO Lakers
At Rotterdam, DOOR Neptunus also was productive and held a 5-0 lead after two innings. After a 6-run rally in the fifth at bat, Neptunus also appeared to be en route to a big score like L&D Amsterdam Pirates in Vleuten. But the scoring stopped with an 11-0 lead and opponent ADO Lakers even scored twice in the seventh to erase the 10-run difference. However, in the bottom of the seventh, Neptunus added another run to end the game through the mercy-rule after all.

Neptunus collected only 10 basehits tonight, including four by Benjamin Dille, all of them being a double.

Neptunus opened the score with three runs with two outs in the first inning. With the bases loaded, the first runs were scored when both Adrian Anthony and Shaldimar Daantji walked. The third run was then scored when pitcher Ricky Voorn struckout rookie Jules Peters. But the third strike ended in a passed ball, enabling Rafaël Jozefa to score.

Two runs were added in the second inning. With one out, Gianison Boekhoudt homered, then Dille doubled and scored on a following single by Dwayne Kemp.

After two scoreless innings, Neptunus staged a 6-run (all unearned) rally in the fifth at bat on three hits, while the ADO Lakers-defense committed two errors. ADO Lakers could have had two quick outs in the beginning of the at bat. Jozefa led off with a walk, but then was safe on second base when an error was made on a force play-grounder by Anthony. Another error followed on another force play-grounder, hit by Daantji. With the bases loaded, Peters walked to bring in a run. Next, Stephen Henson grounded into a double play, which led to the next run. But instead of giving up no runs in this at bat, four more were added after the double play. A single by Gyenuar Lopez, double by Dille and 2-run single by Kemp lifted the lead to 11-0.

ADO Lakers then erased the shutout in the top of the seventh inning off of Diornick Sanchez, who took over for starter Tim Roodenburg. Lead-off hitter Wamaer Bordewijk reached on an error. With one out, Myren Girigori entered the game as pinch-hitter, making his big league-debut, and singled, then the bases got loaded after a hit batter. Jurriaan Dijk followed with a 2-run single. After a walk loaded the bases, Jorian van Acker relieved Sanchez and ended the inning with two strikeouts.

Neptunus then regained a new 10-run lead moments later. With one out, Dille hit his fourth double of the game and advanced to third base on a grounder by Kemp. He then scored the twelfth run on a walk-off single by Jozefa, ending the game.
