Kalian 'Slams' Neptunus to Series!
Nederlands
HAARLEM / AMSTERDAM / BUSSUM / THE HAGUE (Neth.) - DOOR Neptunus became the first team to qualify for the Holland Series on Saturday by winning big vs. Corendon Kinheim, 15-2. With the loss, Kinheim was dethroned as Dutch champion, as it was officially eliminated.

Kalian Sams accounted for the offensive highlight of the game. With a 6-0 lead, Sams belted a grand slam homerun in the fourth inning to increase Neptunus' lead to 10-0. After completion his seventh professional season in the USA, Sams returned home to the Netherlands on Wednesday, attended Thursday's first game between Neptunus and Kinheim and was added to the roster of Neptunus on Friday for the games in the weekend. Today, Sams made his debut in a Neptunus-uniform and went 1-for-4 in his first game for a Dutch club-team since playing for ADO in 2006. Exactly one year ago, Sams also hit a grand slam homerun. On September 7, 2012, Sams batted for-the-cycle with a grand slam vs. Belgium in the opening game of the Dutch National Baseball Team of the European Championship. He hit that homerun in the home stadium of Neptunus, where he will play his next game on Sunday.

Orlando Yntema went the distance for Neptunus in the 7-inning game.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates failed to become the second finalist, as it was shutout 2-0 by Vaessen Pioniers. This sets up an all-deciding final game of the 9-game Play-Off series. On Sunday, Amsterdam and Pioniers will meet again at Hoofddorp with the winner of that game qualifying for the Holland Series.

On Saturday, Amsterdam-starter Kevin Heijstek gave up two early runs to Pioniers. In the second inning, former Pirate Vince Rooi scored on a sac-fly by Kevin Dirksen. In the third at bat, it was Rooi who singled in the second run.

Amsterdam reached third base only once and second base only three times. Trailing 2-0, it might have started something in the fourth inning when Percy Isenia led off with a single, but he was thrown out at second base trying to stretch it into a double. In the seventh inning, Amsterdam got the bases loaded with two outs, but then a grounder ended the at bat.

In the Play-Downs, ADO Lakers won 4-3 vs. Mampaey The Hawks. With this, ADO Lakers registered a win in a Play-Down series for the third week in a row. The win might have saved the season of ADO Lakers, as Mr. Cocker HCAW was shutout 3-0 by UVV. However, on Thursday, ADO Lakers was handed a sanction for using ineligible player Eugene Henson in four games. Eight points were subtracted, meaning the team will finish in last place and has to play a best-of-five series against the champion of the second highest league.

Trailing 3-2, ADO Lakers decided the game in the seventh inning. With two outs, Paul van Velthoven singled in the tying run, then scored the go-ahead run on a double by Wamaer Bordewijk.

UVV's starting pitcher Dennis Burgersdijk gave up only two hits in eight innings, then rookie Kim van Lavieren added a perfect ninth to seal the shutout-win and earn a save. Norbert Jongerius went 4-for-5 and scored twice for UVV. UVV opened the score after four scoreless innings on a grounder by Dennis De Quint. Two runs were added in the seventh on a triple by De Quint and a single by Ferd van Stekelenburg.
