Cordemans first 10-game winner of season

HOOFDDORP / HAARLEM / AMSTERDAM / DORDRECHT (Neth.) - On Thursday-evening, Rob Cordemans became the first 10-game winner of the season in a 7-1 victory of L&D Amsterdam Pirates vs. Mr. Cocker HCAW. League-leader DOOR Neptunus suffered an 8-3 loss at Corendon Kinheim, while Vaessen Pioniers shutout ADO Lakers, 3-0. Mampaey The Hawks outscored UVV, 6-3.

At Amsterdam, Rob Cordemans struckout 13 batters and gave up only three basehits in seven innings to become the first 10-game winner of the 2013 season. The righthander walked none and gave up an earned run in the fifth inning of the 7-1 victory of L&D Amsterdam Pirates vs. Mr. Cocker HCAW to raise his record to 10-1. The 38-year old veteran, who was last years Best Pitcher and Most Valuable Player, is second in ERA with 0.96, trailing teammate Kevin Heijstek, who has a 0.85 ERA. With 81 strikeouts, Cordemans is in fourth place. David Bergman (Corendon Kinheim) leads with 89.

Amsterdam opened the score in the third inning when Roelie Henrique hit a 2-run homerun. A third run in the at bat was added on an error. After HCAW scored its run in the fifth on a double by Juriën Overman, Pirates scored its next run in the home of the fifth on a single by Bas de Jong, who was 2-for-3. A 3-run rally followed in the seventh at bat. Singles by Jesse Aussems (one-run) and Wesley Connor (2-run) contributed to the runs.



At Haarlem, Diegomar Markwell lost his chance to also become a 10-game winner, as DOOR Neptunus lost 8-3 to Corendon Kinheim. Markwell gave up eight hits and nine runs in five innings. Kinheim opened the score in the first at bat when Bryan Engelhardt hit a 2-run homerun.

In the second at bat, Neptunus got one run back, but also left the bases loaded. Kinheim reacted with five runs in its second inning to take a commanding lead. In the inning, Kinheim had four hits, including RBI-doubles by Remco Draijer (one-run) and Ramiro Balentina (2-run). In the fifth, Engelhardt homered again.



At Hoofddorp, Vaessen Pioniers shutout ADO Lakers 3-0, but led only 1-0 after six innings. The lone run was scored in the first at bat on a single by Vince Rooi. Two runs were added in the seventh on a balk and a sac-fly by Phil Ortez. ADO Lakers collected only two basehits.



At Dordrecht, Mampaey the Hawks won 6-3 vs. UVV. Trailing 1-0, The Hawks rallied for four runs with two outs in the second inning off of starter Jurjen van Zijl. With one out, Gregory Trinidad doubled and Joris Naber was hit by a pitch. With two outs, both scored on a single by Thomas Soerderhuijsen, followed by RBI-singles by Allard Lammerts van Bueren and Urving Kemp.

Two runs were added in the fourth inning on a single by Kemp and sac-fly by Berend Ruben. UVV was able to score only two more runs in the remainder of the game.
