Markwell's team wins second game
Nederlands
CARACAS (Venezuela) - Leones del Caracas, the team of Dutch pitcher Diegomar Markwell in the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional, also won its second game of the season. On Friday-evening, the Leones won 9-7 vs. Bravos de Margarita, whom they beat 8-1 on Thursday.

It was a high-scoring, high-hitting game. Besides combining on 16 runs, the teams each hit 12 basehits. Leading the attack for the Leones was Danny Dorn, who was 3-for-4, scored twice and had three runs batted in. Dorn also hit a 2-run homerun in the seventh inning, which enlarged the team's lead to 9-5. When the inning began, Caracas led only 6-5, then a single by Jesus Aguilar made it 7-5 followed by Dorn's homerun. Gregorio Petit homered for the Leones in the sixth inning.

The lead was threatened again in the top of the ninth inning when the Bravos scored twice with two outs, but a pop-fly then ended the game.

Diegomar Markwell didn't got into action yet, but his debut in the Venezuelan professional league appears to come closer. Tonight, Caracas used nine different pitchers in the game. One of them also pitched in Thursday's game when four pitchers were used. And so, Caracas has now used 12 different pitchers in the two games it has played. The team has 23 (!) pitchers on its roster, including Markwell.
