Van den Hurk, Jones not in Asia Series
TAICHUNG (Taiwan) - Dutch pitcher Rick van den Hurk and outfielder Andruw Jones will not participate in the Asian Series, which begins on Friday in Taiwan.

Van den Hurk and Jones both played in their first season in Asia and both were successful. With Samsung Lions, Van den Hurk won the championship in South Korea, while Jones played for Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, which won the championship in Japan. As winners of their professional leagues, the Lions and Golden Eagles qualified for the Asia Series. There, they will be joined by Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions, the champion of the professional league in Taiwan, as well as Taiwanese runner-up EDA Rhinos, Canberra Cavalry, the champion of the 2012-2013 season in Australia, and Unipol Fortitudo Bologna, which represents Europe as winner of the European Champions' Cup earier this year.

Both Van den Hurk and Jones have other commitments. The rosters for the Lions and Golden Eagles were officially announced the last few days. The Golden Eagles added some of their younger players to its roster for the upcoming event.

On Friday, the Lions open the event against Bologna, while the Golden Eagles meet the Rhinos in the evening.
