Second appearance Markwell for Caracas
Nederlands
CARACAS (Venezuela) - Three days after making his debut in the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional, Dutch pitcher Diegomar Markwell made his second appearance on the mound for Leones del Caracas. This time, he was used as closer.

Last Saturday, Markwell took over the pitching in the first inning, while his team trailed 5-0 vs. Tigres de Aragua. Markwell had a good outing, gave up no runs, but the Leones lost 9-8.

On Sunday, the Leones lost 6-2 at Tiburones de La Guaira, then no games were scheduled on Monday. Tonight (Tuesday, October 15), the Leones were back home and played vs. Caribes de Anzoategui.

Caracas took a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Daniel Mayora hit a 3-run homerun with one out. But in the top of the 4th, Anzoategui tied the score when Cory Aldridge also hit a 3-run homerun with two outs.

In the bottom of the 4th, Caracas regained the lead when Carlos Rivero hit an one-out homerun, but the team also stranded a runner on second base.

Anzoategui made it a tie score again by scoring a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI-double by Luis Nunez. They then took a 5-4 lead in the next at bat, thanks to a basesloaded single by Gustavo Molina with no outs. Caracas then turned a 3-2-3 double play, followed by an inning-ending line drive, preventing more runs.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Caracas came alongside to make it 5-5. With runners on first and third base, a force play-grounder by Danny Dorn led to the tying run, but then a double play ended the inning.

Anzoategui then decided the game in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Carlos Duran doubled and advanced to third base on a grounder by Gustavo Molina. Hereafter, Diegomar Markwell was brought in, replacing José Ascanio, and became the tenth pitcher of the evening for Caracas. With Duran on third base, Markwell walked Niuman Romero. Then, with Gorkys Hernandez batting for Anzoategui, a balk was called against Markwell, meaning Duran was awarded home, which gave the Caribes a 6-5 lead. Markwell then struckout Hernandez to end the inning.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Caracas got the bases loaded with one out, but failed to score. With one out, Gregorio Petit singled and pinch-hitter Raul Padron doubled. Next, pinch-hitter Steve Susdorf was walked intentionally to set up a force play. Pitcher Jean Toledo (the eighth pitcher for Caribes) then struckout Bobby Abreu and the game ended when next batter Chad Huffman's grounder ended in a force play at second base.
