WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao (Neth.) -
Wladimir 'Coco' Balentien has been honored on Sunday (November 17) on his home-island of Curaçao.
The Netherlands Baseball Team-outfielder returned home on Sunday-afternoon and was picked up at the Hato Airport.
A tour around Curaçao followed and he then was honored at Chirino Ballpark.
Also in the evening, a street was named after Balentien.
The Arowakenweg was renamed in 'Kaya Wladimir R.R. 'Coco' Balentien'.
This season, Balentien broke the all-time single-season homerun-record in the Japanese professional baseball-league.
Balentien, who played for Yakult Swallows, finished the season with 60 homeruns after earlier breaking the record, which stood at 55.
The record was originally set by legendary Sadaharu Oh in 1964 and was tied twice.
The Antilliaans Dagblad newspaper reported about the tour on its front page of Monday, November 18.
