Twins evens series to force 5th game
Nederlands
OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - Twins shutout ADO Lakers 9-0 on Sunday in Game 4 of the best-of-five Promotion/Relegation Play-Off to even the series. With this, a fifth game is now needed to decide the series. This game will be played next Saturday in The Hague. The winner will play in the Dutch big league next season, the losing team in the second highest league ('Overgangsklasse').

ADO Lakers hit only three basehits off of three pitchers today. The team reached second base only once. After the first seven batters were retired in order by Jurriaan Korff, Jurriaan Dijk singled with one out in the third inning, but then was picked off.

In the fifth inning, Glennton Poulo reached on an error with one out, but was forced out. In the seventh at bat, Jeffrey Ruiz hit the second basehit for ADO Lakers and advanced on an outfield-error, but he stranded on second base.

Facing new pitcher Matthew Latta in the eighth inning, ADO Lakers got a runner on base when Thomas Gei walked with one out, but then Twins turned a double play. ADO Lakers got its sixth and final batter on base in the ninth at bat off of Remco Gorisse. He gave up a lead-off single to Kelvin Knape, but after a flyout, Twins then turned another double play to end the game.

So, it was all Twins today and that already began in the first inning.

ADO Lakers-starter Wimsley van Heijningen gave up a lead-off single to Jarreau Martina (who then stole second base) and walked Shurty Tremus. The two advanced on a sac-bunt by Bart Hanegraaf. A sac-fly by Martijn Meeuwis then opened the score. Moments later, Tremus stole third base and scored when a throwing error from the catcher followed.

Twins then took more distance by adding three runs in the second inning when Van Heijningen ran into problems again. With one out, Stijn Janssens singled . Next, Van Heijningen made an error on a sacrifice bunt by Christopher Ge and loaded the bases by walking Lars Molenaar. Jarreau Martina followed with a 2-run single and a sac-fly by Shurty Tremus brought in the next run and made it a 5-0 score.

van Heijningen gave up two more singles in the third inning and was relieved by Martijn Riphagen. He retired the two batters he faced, but then gave up an additional run in the fourth when Tremus singled with two outs and scored on a single by Hanegraaf.

In the fifth inning, Twins increased its lead to 7-0 when Anthony Vrolijk led off with a single and scored on a 2-out single by Molenaar.

Twins was then held scoreless in the sixth and seventh inning, but scored two more runs in the eighth off of Rick van der Post, who had taken over the pitching the inning before. With one out, Martina and Tremus singled, then Hanegraaf walked, loading the bases. Tremus was then forced out at third base on a grounder by Martijn Meeuwis, but Martina scored. The bases were re-loaded when Mick Molenaar walked. A single by Anthony Vrolijk then accounted for the next run and made it 9-0.

For the record...
...In the top of the ninth inning, Bart in den Kleef entered the game as new catcher for Twins. Bart's mother Jeanette in den Kleef (who also was a catcher) is one of the five Van den Heijkant-sisters, who played together in the big league-softballteam of Twins in the eighties.

...Twins collected 13 basehits (all singles) today, including three by Jarreau Martina and Anthony Vrolijk. Martina also scored twice and had two runs batted in.
