Dates Haarlem Baseball Week 2014 announced
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - The Organizing Committee of the bi-annual Haarlem Baseball Week has announced the playing dates for the next tournament to be held in 2014.

The 27th edition of the oldest international tournament in the Netherlands will open on Friday, July 11 and concludes with the final on Sunday, July 20. All games will be played again in the historic Pim Mulier Stadium in Haarlem, which is the home of Dutch big league-team and reigning champion Corendon Kinheim.

The inaugural edition of the tournament took place in 1961, back then at the baseball-field located at the Badmintonpad, which was the former home of Kinheim. That site was situated close to the area where in 1963 the Pim Mulier Stadium was built and then became the home of big league-club EHS, which later became Haarlem Nicols after a merger. Kinheim moved to the stadium a few years ago.

In further news from the Haarlem Baseball Week, it was annouced that Frans van der Riet has retired from the Organizing Comittee. Van der Riet was in charge of Commercial Affairs and will be succeeded by Tim Keuter, a former pitcher of Kinheim and Amsterdam Pirates, as well as the Dutch National Team. Van der Riet will remain active for the tournament, as he now becomes a member of the Sponsor Committee.

Except for the Dutch National Team, the field of participants for the 2014 tournament is not known yet.

For the City of Haarlem, the Haarlem Baseball Week will be the first of two major events next year. From August 15-24, the Nol Houtkamp Sportpark, the site of FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem, will be the stage for the World Championship Softball, marking the first time that this event is being organized in Europe.

Coming Sunday, the 14th edition of the World Port Tournament opens in Rotterdam. This event first was organized in 1985 and since then had a new tournament every odd year, except for 2005 when the World Championship was held in The Netherlands. When the WPT was introduced, it resulted in having a big international baseball-tournament being held in the Netherlands every year. In even years (since 1972), the Haarlem Baseball Week is organized.
