Lions take 2-0 lead in Taiwan Series
Nederlands
TAINAN CITY (Taiwan) - Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Taiwan Series on Sunday-evening (October 27) by winning 4-2 vs. EDA Rhinos. Game 3 of the Series will be played on Tuesday in Taipei.

Just as in the first game, the Lions were outhit by the Rhinos, but left the field as winners. Tonight, the Rhinos outhit the Lions 8-7 at Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium, the home site of the Lions.

Tainan is the oldest city in Taiwan and was established by the Dutch East India Company as a trading base called Fort Zeelandia. Textile merchant Cornelis Reyersz sailed to Taiwan in search of a suitable location to build a trading post. In 1624, he established a small fort, which was called Orange. When the fort was expanded, it was renamed Fort Zeelandia. Tainan went on to become the capital of the country, which is was until 1887.

The Lions opened the score in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI-single by Chih-wei Deng.

But in the top of the fourth inning, the Rhinos answered with two runs off of starter Ching-lung Luo. In the first inning, the Rhinos had two runners on base with one out, then another runner on base with one out in the second at bat, but were unable to score. But now, in the fourth, two doubles and a single gave the Rhinos two runs and a 2-1 lead.

The lead didn't last long, as the Lions came alongside in the sixth inning on a 2-out double by Guo-ching Kao off of starter Nick Green.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lions got runners on second and third base off of Ming-chin Tsai. The pitcher then uncorked a wild pitch, which brought in the go-ahead run. Moments later, he walked a batter with the bases loaded that made it 4-2.

The Rhinos were only 2-for-10 tonight with runners in scoring position.
