Second shutout for Amsterdam Pirates

On the second day of the exhibition season in the Dutch Major League, L&D Amsterdam Pirates registered its second shutout in two days, this time winning 7-0 vs. Mr. Cocker HCAW.
Reigning champion DOOR Neptunus played a 5-5 tie vs. Twins.
The other big league-teams didn't play today.
At Bussum, Amsterdam collected six basehits, while four pitchers gave up only one basehit to HCAW in this 7 1/2 inning game.
The game was scheduled to be played at the site of Pirates in Amsterdam, but as the field wasn't ready yet to be played on, the game was transfered to the home field of HCAW in Bussum.
Amsterdam opened the score in the first inning off of Robin Schel when Roelie Henrique walked and scored on a grounder.
The next run was added in the fourth at bat thanks to a double by Percy Isenia.
Amsterdam then scored twice in the fifth inning to double its lead.
Jesse Aussems and Patrick Bok then received walks from Tim Niekerk, who was relieved hereafter by Roel Bellinga.
He walked Björn Hato to load the bases, then gave up a 2-run single to Roelie Henrique.
A 3-run rally followed in the seventh inning.
Rookie Daan Groenewoud then reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Duursma.
With two outs, the lead was lifted to 7-0 on a 2-out double by Bas de Jong, who was the league's best hitter in the last two seasons.
For Amsterdam, Jos de Jong started and threw two hitless innings.
Next, Kyle Ward allowed only one runner (walk) in the next two innings and Daan Hendrix retired six batters in a row in the fifth and sixth inning.
Rookie Tom de Blok then retired the side in the seventh, including two strikeouts.
De Blok, who will make his professional debut this season in the organisation of the Seattle Mariners, then gave up HCAW's lone basehit with one out in the eighth when Kevin Weijgertse singled.
Hereafter, Jim Froberg and Max Clarijs both walked to load the bases.
That also marked the end of the game, as De Blok had reached his pitch count.
At Oosterhout, Jurriaan Korff and Floris Timmer held Neptunus scoreless in the first four innings, then Twins took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth off of Berry van Driel.
In the following innings, Neptunus turned the 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead off of Justin van Zon and Kevin Roovers, but the home team managed to come back again.
In the end, the game, which was attended by some 200 spectators, ended in a 5-5 tie.
The regular season opens on Thursday, April 17.
