European Crepaldi out for season; Taiwanese Training Team adds win
Nederlands
TAICHUNG (Taiwan) -
Italian pitcher Filippo Crepaldi will not get back into action again for Team Europe during the Asia Winter Baseball League.
On Tuesday, the righthander was hit on his head by a comeback line drive on what only was his third delivery in the game.
He had taken over the pitching in the bottom of the third inning in the game against the professional Taiwan Beer CPBL Team.
His third pitch was hit back to him and hit him just above his right ear.
While trying, he was unable to avoid being hit, then sprained his left ankle when falling to the ground.
The ball caroomed off his head towards third baseman Rashid Gerard, who fielded the ball, then the game was stopped.
Crepaldi was attended immediately and was transported to the hospital, where no serious injuries to his head were diagnosed.
Initially, it was thought that he sustained a minor sprain to his ankle, but that now appears to be more severe.
And with that, he will be out for the remainder of the season in the Asia Winter League, which ends on December 20.
On Wednesday (December 2), European Manager Gilberto Gerali said that Crepaldi ''is doing OK now, but won't be able to pitch again in the tournament''.
