Shutout-win Kingdom Team in first exhibition game
Nederlands
NEW TAIPEI CITY (Taiwan) - The team of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has won its first exhibition game on Wednesday (November 4) with a 7-0 shutout against a local University-team. Last month, the squad won two earlier exhibition games during a training camp on Curaçao to prepare for the upcoming Premier12.

The Orange squad opened the score with one run in the first inning, then rallied for three runs in both the fifth an sixth at bat.

At Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium, the Kingdom Team collected 13 basehits, including three by Yurendell de Caster and a homerun by Kalian Sams.

Six Orange-pitchers gave up only two basehits to the Taiwanese students. It was a quick-paced game, as the sixth inning began while there was only one out played. Eventually, the game lasted two hours and 20 minutes.

On Friday, the Kingdom-squad plays against the USA, then closes the preparations on Saturday against the Dominican Republic. The team then opens the Premier12 on Monday against host Taiwan.

In the opening at bat, the Netherlands-squad opened the score. With one out, Curt Smith singled, then scored on a following double by Yurendell de Caster to give the Kingdom-team an early lead.

However, hereafter, eight batters were retired in order. The Orange then reached base again in the top of the fourth inning. After the Taiwanese team had changed pitchers, Yurendell de Caster led off with a single, but later was eliminated in an inning-ending double play.

In the fifth, the Kingdom-team struck with three runs on four basehits. Kalian Sams and Sharlon Schoop led off with singles to put runners on first and third base. A sacrifice fly by Carlton Daal then doubled the lead. A following single by Hainley Statia again resulted in runners on first and third base. Moments later, Statia also got into scoring position on a grounder by Randolph Oduber. Schoop and Daal then both scored on a single by Curt Smith to lift the lead to 4-0.

Three more runs were added in the sixth inning after another pitching change. Again, the Netherlands produced four basehits in this at bat, including a big one. Yurendell de Caster led off with a single (he was 3-for-3), then advanced on a wild pitch. Hereafter, Wladimir Balentien flied out, but Shawn Zarraga followed with a walk. Next, Kalian Sams drove the ball into leftfield for a 3-run homerun that made it a 7-0 score. With two outs, Carlton Daal and Hainley Statia both singled, but they were left behind.

In the last three innings, the Orange added two more basehits, but didn't score more runs. After being retired in order in the seventh, Gianison Boekhoudt tripled with two outs in the eighth, but stranded.

In the top of the ninth, with two outs, Gilmer Lampe singled, but he was then forced out. Lampe is a non-roster player, as he is not on the Premier12-roster for the Netherlands-squad. He is with the team as a back-up player.
