One run is enough for DSS in important win
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - DSS opened its 3-game series vs. HCAW on Thursday-evening (August 6) scoring only one run and that was all it needed. DSS nipped HCAW 1-0 in the lone series left over that will determine the final ranking in the Overall Standings.

DSS and HCAW can still switch places and that will determine how many points they take with them to the Play-Downs, that open on August 13.

(August 6)

The lone run tonight was scored in the fifth inning. Levine Gabriëls led off with a single, moved on sacrifice bunt by Mitchel Dautzenberg, then advanced to third when Mark Smit reached on a throwing error. Sven Jongejans followed with a runscoring single and that was it. Hereafter, DSS got the bases loaded when Mitchell Koot singled, leading to a pitching change. Steven van Groningen took over for starter Kaj Timmermans and he saw the inning end when Ryan Miner grounded into a double play.

DSS had several productive at bats, but was unable to score more than one run.

In the second inning, with one out, Tino van Erk doubled and Joffrey Heus walked with two outs, but they were left. In the fourth, Mitchell Koot led off with a single and Seb Visser was hit by a pitch. But with runners on first and third base and two outs, a force out ended the inning. In the sixth, with two outs, Heus and Gabriëls singled. Next, Dautzenberg also singled, but this time the inning ended when Heus was eliminated at home trying to score. In the eighth, Van Erk led off with a single, moved on a sac-bunt and grounder, but stranded on third base.

DSS-starter Tim Halderman gave up only three hits in the seven innings he pitched. He walked lead-off hitter Marciano Philippi in the first inning, but he was caught stealing moments later.

In the second inning, HCAW got close to opening the score. Kevin Nieveld led off with a single and moved on a grounder. Jelle Blaauw then walked and the bases got loaded when Raoell Kortstam was hit by a pitch. The inning ended with a double play.

In the fourth, Emersson Paula led off with a walk, but stranded on third base. In the sixth, now trailing 1-0, Paula doubled with one out, then Nieveld walked. With two outs, both moved on a passed ball, but a grounder ended the inning, leaving them behind in scoring position.

Halderman then retired the side in the seventh, as did reliever Max Ploegstra in the eighth. In the ninth, closer Kevin Geestman gave up an one-out single to Jarreau Martina. The inning and game then ended with a strikeout-caught stealing double play.
