The Hawks opened the score with two runs in the second inning off of starter Ian Delemarre.
Stephen Henson led off with a single, advanced on a passed ball, then moved when Brian Raap reached on an error.
A single by Amir Daou then led to the two runs.
Henson scored from third base, then Raap also scored when Daou got in a rundown and was eliminated.
Two outs followed, but The Hawks had taken a 2-0 lead.
American hurler Enoch Deaton started for The Hawks.
While UVV reached base frequently, the lefthander held them scoreless for four innings.
In the first inning, he walked Dennis De Quint with one out, but he was forced out.
In the second, Deaton gave up lead-off singles to Mike Bazuin and Brennan Nijhof.
In a double steal attempt, Bazuin was caught stealing at third base.
The bases then got loaded when Jordan Illis and Thomas Smits walked, but a double play ended the inning.
In the third inning, UVV again stranded two runners.
In both the fourth and fifth inning, UVV left one runner behind.
But the squad also scored a run in the fifth.
With one out, Dennis De Quint walked, moved on a single by Tony Enos and scored on a single by Omar Williams.
But The Hawks then turned another double play to end the at bat.
The Hawks got the run back in its fifth off of new pitcher Norbert Jongerius, who normally is playing in rightfield for UVV.
Jongerius gave up a lead-off single to Jules Peters, who then stole second base and advanced on a single by Odion Gouverneur.
Peters scored on a single by Julian Goins, who himself was eliminated trying to advance to second base.
The Hawks added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth inning off of Jim Ploeger, who normally is one of the starting pitchers in the rotation of UVV.
With one out, Louie-Jay Sienders singled, advanced on a passed ball and then a wild pitch.
Next batter Chris Williams walked and while he was forced out, Sienders scored.
In the eighth, Sienders led off with a single and moved on a passed ball, before Williams walked.
Sienders was then forced out on third base, but moments later Williams advanced on a passed ball, then scored on a basesloaded walk for Julian Goins.
But with the bases still loaded, a strikeout and force out ended the inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, The Hawks-starter Enoch Deaton was relieved by Kevin van Veen, who threw three fine innings.
In the sixth, he was supported with the third double play the home team made, then retired the side in the next two innings.
Leading 5-1, Berend Ruben pitched the ninth inning for The Hawks.
Ruben, who is the regular second baseman, walked lead-off hitter Brennan Nijhoff, but a pop-fly, strikeout and groundout followed to secure the win.
