Throughout the season, it appeared that Pioniers was leaving a lot of runners during games.
True, it left 10 or more runners in several games, but in fact, the Hoofddorp-squad stranded an average of just over 8 runners per game.
And, with 334 stranded runners, Pioniers is only in fourth place behind Neptunus (361), Amsterdam Pirates (360) and Kinheim (338).
Today, Pioniers left only four runners, three of them in the third inning when it also scored the lone run in the game.
In the bottom of the third inning, Kevin Dirksen led off for Pioniers with a single, then Djewi Appelman walked.
With one out, an error followed on a force play-grounder by Daniel Fernandes, which loaded the bases.
Next, the second out was recorded on an infield-fly by Dirk van 't Klooster.
Kinheim-starter David Bergman then walked next batter Danny Rombley, which would result in the lone run in today's game.
The bases were left loaded when Vince Rooi grounded out.
David Bergman gave up only one more additonal basehit in the six innings he pitched.
The righthander retired the side in the first, second, fourth and fifth inning.
In the sixth, with one out, he gave up a single to Rombley, who later was caught stealing.
In the seventh inning, Bergman was relieved by Tom Stuifbergen, who is recovering from an injury and threw only one inning.
The former pro retired the side, then was replaced by closer Arshwin Asjes.
He gave up an one-out single to rookie Glenn Bakker in the eighth, but a line out and strikeout followed.
Kinheim registered only two basehits off of four pitchers.
Both basehits were hit off of starter Ricardo Hernandez Sanchez, who threw the first five innings.
With one out in the first inning, Hernandez gave up a single to Mervin Gario, but followed with two strikeouts.
After retiring the side in the next two innings, the lefthander gave up an one-out single to Bryan Engelhardt.
But with two outs, he was caught stealing after a successful pick-off.
In the fifth, Hernandez walked lead-off hitter Sven van de Sanden, who stole second base with one out, but then stranded.
In the sixth inning, Sedley Karel took over and retired the side.
In the seventh, new pitcher Dennis Buring did the same.
Closer Bayron Cornelisse then took over in the eighth inning.
He saw lead-off hitter Dudley Leonora reach on an error and move on a sac-bunt and a grounder.
With Leonora on third base, Jochem Koedijk walked, but then a grounder ended this scoring opportunity.
In the ninth, Cornelisse again saw the lead-off hitter reach on an error, this time Mervin Gario.
Hereafter, Engelhardt grounded into a double play, then a grounder by Dashenko Ricardo ended the game, earning Cornelisse a save.
