HCAW opened the score today with two runs in the first inning off of starter Jorn van Ingen.
With one out, Roy Seltenrijch singled, stole second base, then scored on a following single by Emersson Paula.
He also stole second base, then scored the second run for HCAW on a 2-out single by Kevin Nieveld.
After being retired in order in the first two innings (three strikeouts), DSS came alongside in the top of the third inning off of Maickel Rietel.
Lex Leijenaar and Shane Boeree led off with singles.
Hereafter, Rietel struckout Ruud Naaktgeboren in his first at bat of the season.
Before the start of the season, Naaktgeboren initially had retired, but he returned in uniform last week.
With one out, the two runners advanced on a wild pitch.
A grounder by Mark Smit and single by Sven Jongejans then respectively brought in Leijenaar and Boeree to make it a 2-2 score.
HCAW re-took the lead immediately in the bottom of the third inning.
With two outs, Emersson Paula singled.
He moved to third base on a single by Rossini Frolijk, then scored when a throwing error from the outfield followed to third base.
In the next four innings, HCAW reached base several times, but left five runners off of three pitchers.
Mark van Deursen took over for Van Ingen in the fifth inning.
He began with a strikeout, then walked Roy Seltenrijch, but he stranded on first base.
In the sixth, with two outs, Rossini Frolijk reached on an error and Raoell Kortstam singled, but this time, HCAW left runners on first and third base.
In the seventh, off of new pitcher Max Ploegstra, HCAW left a runner on first base.
Leading only 3-2, HCAW was able to take more distance in the eighth inning, scoring three unearned runs.
First batter Kevin Nieveld reached on an error, but was forced out on a grounder by Jarreau Martina.
The latter stole second base, then advanced on a grounder by Gianni Frolijk, which would have been the third out.
Next, Raoell Kortstam walked, then Marciano Philippi delivered a 2-run double and later scored himself when a throwing error was made on a grounder by Peter van Doesburg to make it 6-2.
After giving up the runscoring single to Jongejans in the third inning, HCAW-starter Maickel Rietel retired nine batters in a row.
Hereafter, with two outs in the top of the sixth inning and a 3-2 lead, the righthander was relieved by Bob Klaarenbeek.
The lefthander faced lefthander hitting Tino van Erk, who walked and moved on a following single by Seb Visser, but a flyout ended the inning.
In the next three innings, DSS got more baserunners, but failed to add more runs.
The Haarlem-squad left seven runners from the sixth inning on.
In the seventh, Joffrey Heus led off with a walk and moved on a sacrifice bunt.
After Leon Elshof took over the pitching for Klaarenbeek, Heus advanced to third base on a passed ball.
He then was eliminated at the plate trying to score the tying run on a grounder to short.
In the eighth, DSS got the bases loaded with one out.
Mark Smit led off with a walk, but was caught stealing.
Hereafter, Sven Jongejans walked, then Gijs van Els relieved Elshof to become the fourth pitcher for HCAW.
He hit Tino van Erk with a pitch, then walked Seb Visser to load the bases.
But hereafter, Levine Gabriëls grounded into a double play to end the inning.
In the ninth, Heus again led off with a walk.
He then moved on a passed ball and a 2-out single by Naaktgeboren, but stranded on third base when Van Els closed the game with a strikeout.
