Neptunus collected 19 basehits today, including five by lead-off hitter Dwayne Kemp, who had four basehits in the first four innings. Raily Legito had four basehits and batted in six runs. 13 of Neptunus' 19 basehits were registered by the first four batters in the line-up. They also batted in 14 runs combined and scored 13 runs.

More facts of today's game.

The 19 runs given up by Kinheim were the most the team gave up in this century and are the most it gave up since September 28, 1996. Back then, 19 (!) years ago, Kinheim gave up 20 runs in a 20-5 loss vs. HCAW in Game 2 of the Holland Series. In between, the most runs given up by the Haarlem-squad was 15, which happened three times.

There have been 11 games this season in which one team scored 15 or more runs. Only in two of those games, it was the home team that scored 15 or more runs.

For Home Plate Umpire Efrem Silvania, it was his fourth game of the season in which one team scored 15 or more runs. Four other umpires were present in three of such games, being Winfried Berkvens, Martijn Bosschaart, Stenar van Groningen Schinkel and René Ras.

It marked the third consecutive game in which one team scored 15 or more runs in which Marco Stoovelaar was one of the two Official Scorers. It was his league-leading fifth of the season. Five Official Scorers were involved twice in these kind of games.

In today's game, Stoovelaar was joined by scoring colleague Ger van Dongen, who did the play-by-play. It was Van Dongen's final game, as he is retiring after 25 years, missing one season. Van Dongen made his debut as Official Scorer on June 7, 1990 at the game between Neptunus and Quick Amersfoort. During the Seventh Inning Stretch, Van Dongen was honored by the scorebox-crew of Kinheim and was presented a gift by Public Address Announcer Yvonne de Vries. She held a nice speech, thanking not only Ger van Dongen for his many years of contribution as an Official Scorer, but also his wife Carolien, who retired as Official Scorer a few years ago.

Neptunus scored its first two runs in the first at bat off of starter Nick Veltkamp. The lefthander gave up a lead-off single to Dwayne Kemp, who then stole second base, moved on a grounder and scored on a double by Raily Legito. A following single by Gianison Boekhoudt then made it 2-0.

A 6-run rally in the second inning not only lifted Neptunus' lead to 8-0, it also put the game almost out of reach for Kinheim early on. In this at bat, Neptunus collected four hits. The team got the bases loaded after Rien Vernooij led off with a double. After he moved on a grounder, a walk for Urving Kemp and infield-hit for Dwayne Kemp loaded the bases. Veltkamp then hit Benjamin Dille with a pitch, which led to a run. A 2-run single by Raily Legito followed, which made it 5-0. Hereafter, Glenn Wassink relieved Veltkamp, but on his second delivery, he gave up a 3-run homerun to Gianison Boekhoudt that made it 8-0.

Two more rallies followed, as Neptunus scored five runs in the third and four in the fourth.

In the third, Neptunus got the bases loaded with one out. Shaldimar Daantji then doubled, Urving Kemp walked and Dwayne Kemp singled. Singles by Benjamin Dille and Raily Legito (2-run) accounted for three runs, then an error on a grounder by Christian Diaz with two outs brought in the next two runs in this at bat.

In the fourth, four runs were added with two outs. With one out, Daantji singled. With two outs, Dwayne Kemp delivered his fourth single in his fourth at bat, each in one of the first four innings, which is a very rare accomplishment. A single by Dille and double by Legito each produced a run and led to another pitching change. Scott Ronnenbergh took over, but he delivered a runscoring wild pitch, then gave up a runscoring single to pinch-hitter Gyenuar Lopez that increased the lead to 17-0.

The fifth inning was the lone one in which Neptunus didn't score, as it was retired in order by Ronnenbergh. The lefthander then gave up another run in the sixth. He walked lead-off hitter Benjamin Dille, who went on to score on a grounder by Gyenuar Lopez.

Sander Paap, who is a back-up catcher, then pitched the seventh inning for Kinheim and gave up the final run scored by Neptunus. Shaldimar Daantji led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Benjamin Dille.

Kenny Van Den Branden threw the first five innings for Neptunus. The Belgian righthander saw Kinheim reach the bases in each of these innings. In the opening at bat, he gave up an one-out double to Mervin Gario, who stranded on third base. In the second, he gave up singles to Dashenko Ricardo (lead-off) and Sven van de Sanden (2 outs), but they were left at first and second base. In the third, Gario singled for Kinheim with one out, but later was forced out. In the fourth, Van Den Branden hit lead-off hitter Ricardo with a pitch, but then Neptunus turned a double play. A pinch-hit single followed by Niels van Weert, who replaced Dudley Leonora, who had injured himself in the top half of the inning. But Van Weert would strand on second base. In the fifth, the Belgian hurler gave up a 2-out double to Bryan Engelhardt, but also stranded on second base.

Jorian van Acker took over the pitching in the sixth and then retired the side. In the seventh, Van Acker gave up a 2-out single to Kevin Moesquit, then finished the game with a strikeout.
