Kingdom Team also wins second game vs. Curaçao All Stars
Nederlands
WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao (Neth.) - Team Kingdom of the Netherlands also won its second game against the Curaçao All Star Team, winning convincingly with an 8-1 score on Saturday-evening (October 17) at Tio Daou Ballpark in Willemstad.

The Orange squad won 7-0 on Friday-evening in the first match-up between the two teams.
Recap first game

In Saturday's game, Kalian Sams and Randolph Oduber contributred with homeruns.

The Netherlands-squad spent a week on the island of Curaçao, preparing itself for the upcoming Premier12 next month in Taiwan. The team returns home on Monday.

Last week, the Curaçao-squad won three games against the American baseball-team of Dallas Baptist University. (October 17)

In the first game, the Netherlands team was held scoreless in the first six innings. In this game, the squad opened the score in the second at bat.

During the two games, there was a familiar face amongst the 4-man umpire crew. Marlo Remilia, who was a well-respected and fine umpire in the Dutch big league for several years, was behind the plate in the second game. He was the 1B Umpire in the first game on Friday.

With one out in the second inning, Curaçao-starter Ramses Jamanika gave up a single to Shawn Zarraga. With two outs, Carlton Daal also singled to bring Zarraga to second base. Moments later, Zarraga scored the first run when Hainley Statia delivered the third single in this at bat.

A 4-run rally followed in the third inning. With one out, Yurendell De Caster reached on an infield-hit, then Sharlon Schoop walked. Next batter Kalian Sams then connected well and hit a 3-run homerun. Shawn Zarraga followed with a double, advanced when Dudley Leonora flied out, then scored the next run on an infield-hit by Carlton Daal.

The Netherlands-team made it a 6-0 score by adding another run in the fourth inning when Randolph Oduber homered with one out. That marked the end for Jamanika. He was relieved by Marvin Lodowica. He walked Yurendell De Caster, but the Curaçao-defense then turned a double play to end the inning.

After retiring the side in the fifth, Lodowica gave up the next Netherlands-run in the sixth. Carlton Daal (who was 3-for-3) led off with a double and advanced when Hainley Statia grounded out. Hereafter, pinch-hitter Gilmer Lampe walked and stole second base. A grounder by Randolph Oduber then enabled Daal to score. Gianison Boekhoudt then also walked, but hereafter, two runners were left behind.

Jair Jurrjens was the starting pitcher for the Netherlands-squad. The righthander pitched in (parts of) eight seasons in the Major League in 2007-2014 for Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies. In that span, he won 53 games. This season, Jurrjens pitched for Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A team of the Rockies. In August of this year, Jurrjens was released by the Rockies and is currently a Free Agent.

Jurrjens pitched the first two innings for the Orange squad. In the first inning, he gave up an one-out single to Dennis Gustina, who then stole second base, but was left behind. In the next inning, Jurrjens gave up a 2-out single to Ulrich Snijders, but he also stranded. Snijders played professionally in the minors in 2006-2008, then played for T&A San Marino in the Italian Baseball League in 2009 and 2010.

Shairon Martis took over the Dutch pitching in the third inning. Martis pitched in the Major League in 2008 and 2009 for the Washington Nationals, then returned to the big league in 2013 with the Minnesota Twins. This year, he pitched for two Independent League-teams.

Martis gave up a lead-off single to Raydel Isabella in the third inning, then walked Dennis Gustina with one out. The two were left behind, as two flyouts ended the at bat. In the fourth, with two outs, Martis gave up singles to Ulrich Snijders and Jonathan Martijn, but closed the inning with a strikeout. This season, Martijn played for Billings Mustangs, the Rookie League-team of the Cincinnati Reds, with whom he reached the Play-Offs in the Pioneer League.

JC Sulbaran became the third Netherlands-pitcher when he took over in the fifth inning. He began with two strikeouts and retired the side in the fifth. In the next inning, Sulbaran gave up the lone Curaçao-run. He began with his third strikeout, but then walked Edinho Meyer and pinch-hitter Ramiro Balentien. The two runners then advanced on a wild pitch. After Sulbaran struckout another batter, he gave up a single to Luis Veloz, which scored Meyer. Balentien also tried to score, but he was eliminated at the plate on a throw by centerfielder Gilmer Lampe, who had just entered the game.

Now leading 7-1, the Netherlands Team added a run in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, Dashenko Ricardo walked and he advanced to third base when Quintin De Cuba singled with one out. Ricardo then scored when an error followed on a grounder by Kevin Moesquit to make it 8-1.

In the eighth inning, the Orange squad got two more baserunners off of new pitcher Rodien Albertus. With two outs, Dwayne Kemp reached on an error, then Gianfranco Wawoe reached on an infield-hit, but they stranded. In the ninth, Dudley Leonora led of with a double, but hereafter, Curaçao turned its second double play of the game.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Berry van Driel became the next Dutch pitcher. He was greeted with an infield-hit by Raydel Isabella, followed with a strikeout, but then gave up a single to Dennis Gustina. After the two runners had advanced on a wild pitch, Curaçao got the bases loaded when Johnny Gregorius walked. Van Driel followed with another strikeout, then the innning ended when third baseman Dwayne Kemp made a nice play on a line drive down the line by Edinho Meyer. That resulted in a force out on third base.

Tom Stuifbergen then pitched the eighth inning for the Netherlands. The righthander, who was injured towards the end of the Dutch big league-season, had a fine outing, as he struckout all three batters he faced.

Orlando Yntema completed the game. With one out, he saw Reangelo Beaumont reach on an error, but then the next two batters were retired to end the game.

The starting players (and their replacements) in this game for the Dutch Team were:
Catcher-Shawn Zarraga (Dashenko Ricardo), 1st Base-Dudley Leonora (Quintin De Cuba), 2nd Base-Hainley Statia (Kevin Moesquit), 3rd Base-Sharlon Schoop (Dwayne Kemp), Short Stop-Carlton Daal (Dudley Leonora), Leftfield-Randolph Oduber, Centerfield-Chris Garia (Gilbert Lampe), Rightfield-Kalian Sams (Gianfranco Wawoe), Designated Hitter-Yurendell De Caster (Gianison Boekhoudt).
