After suffering a huge 19-0 loss last Sunday vs. Curaçao Neptunus, Kinheim took charge of the game early today, scoring three runs in the first three innings off of righthander Rob Cordemans.
In the first inning, with two outs, Bryan Engelhardt singled, then Phil Ortez homered to give Kinheim an early 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, Jeffrey Arends led off with a single for Kinheim and Jasper Keijzer singled with one out, but both were left behind.
Kinheim then added a run in the third at bat.
Mervin Gario and Bryan Engelhardt led off with singles, then the latter was forced out on a grounder by Phil Ortez.
Next, Dashenko Ricardo singled to bring in Gario, then Kinheim stranded two more runners when a flyout and strikeout followed.
After being retired in order in the fourth inning, Kinheim could have taken a bigger lead in the following at bats, but the Haarlem-squad then left three runners behind in both the fifth and sixth inning.
In the fifth, Engelhardt and Ortez singled with one out, then Arends walked with two outs to load the bases, but a grounder ended the at bat.
In the sixth, off of new pitcher Dennis Burgersdijk, Kinheim loaded the bases again.
With one out, Jasper Keijzer struckout, but reached on a passed ball, then Kevin Moesquit walked and Mervin Gario singled.
Hereafter, Burgersdijk struckout Bryan Engelhardt, then Phil Ortez popped out to end the inning.
Leaving six runners in these two innings almost proved to be very costly for Kinheim, which was in a situation to end up empty-handed in the ninth inning.
Kinheim added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when Dashenko Ricardo led off with a homerun, but then again stranded two runners.
Amsterdam Pirates was limited to only two basehits in this game, but nevertheless could have left the field victorious.
Glenn Wassink started for Kinheim and threw a fine game, taking a No-Hitter into the eighth inning.
Only five days ago, on Sunday, he gave up nine hits and ten runs in 2 1/3 inning in the 19-0 loss vs. Neptunus.
Tonight, the righthander struckout four batters and gave up only one basehit and one run in 7 2/3 inning.
In the first inning, with one out, he hit Michael Duursma with a pitch, but Kinheim then turned a double play on a grounder by Nick Urbanus.
He retired the side in the second inning, then was supported with another double play in the third.
In the next four innings, only one Amsterdam-batter reached base.
Wassink retired the side again in the fourth.
He walked a batter with two outs in the fifth, but then retired the next seven batters in a row.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Wassink's No-Hitter ended when Remco Draijer led off with a double down the rightfield-line.
Hereafter, Wassink struckout both Bas Nooij and Jesse Aussems.
In between, Draijer stole third base.
With two outs, Wassink hit Rashid Gerard with a pitch and was relieved by Pim Walsma.
He began with a wild pitch that enabled Draijer to score the first run for the home team.
With Gerard on second base, the inning ended when Koen Nooij popped out.
In the bottom of the ninth, Kinheim led 4-1, but that lead came into jeopardy.
Amsterdam narrowed the deficit to 4-2 and got the bases loaded with only one out, meaning it had a big opportunity to at least come alongside and force extra innings.
Closer Arshwin Asjes relieved Walsma to start the inning.
He gave up a lead-off double to Roelie Henrique, then hit Michael Duursma with a pitch.
Asjes then struckout Nick Urbanus, but walked Kenny Berkenbosch, which loaded the bases.
After Linoy Croes entered the game as pinch-runner for Berkenbosch, Asjes also walked Remco Draijer.
This not only led to a run and kept the bases loaded, it also led to a pitching change.
Tom Stuifbergen, the announced starting pitcher for Sunday's game, took over for Asjes.
And then the game was suddenly over within a minute, as the righthander had to throw only two pitches!
With the bases loaded, only one out and coming Sunday's starter now pitching in relief, as a batter you might have led him throw a few pitches.
It could have end in a runscoring walk, while a ball hit into the outfield could have end up in sac-fly and a ball hit through the infield might have led to a tie score.
But batters Bas Nooij and Jesse Aussems both opted to go after the first pitch they saw.
Nooij popped the ball up, resulting in an infield fly, while Aussems flied out to leftfield, which ended the game and earned Stuifbergen his second save of the Play-Offs.
