No title for Jurickson Profar

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (USA) - Surprise Saguaros, the team of Curaçao-born infielder Jurickson Profar, ended up short on Saturday-afternoon (November 21) in the Championship Game of the Arizona Fall League. At Scottsdale Stadium, the Saguaros lost 6-4 vs. the Scottsdale Scorpions. With this game, the Arizona Fall League closed its season.

In the Arizona Fall League, which is an off-season league, many of the top Minor League-prospects are playing, who in the regular season play in Double-A and Triple-A. There are playing six teams in the AFL, with each of them being affiliated with five Major League-teams, who will provide seven players for the team. Each club club have the option to send two players from below Double-A.

The Scorpions scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning that began with two costly errors, resulting in three unearned runs. A third error later followed after a sacrificy fly, but that didn't result in an additional run.

The Scorpions added a run in the fifth on a 2-out triple by Mac Williamson.

The Saguaros got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, then narrowed the deficit to 4-3 in the seventh. After scoring runs on a grounder and a sacrifice fly and having a runner on first base, the bases got loaded when Yadiel Rivera and Aledmys Díaz singled. That led to a pitching change and brought Jurickson Profar into the batter's box. But the three runners were left behind when Profar popped out.

The Scorpions then added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth on a 2-out, 2-run double by Adam Brett Walker II to make it a 6-3 score.

The Saguaros then was able to score one more run in the bottom of the ninth when Dustin Fowler led off with a homerun. But that was to be it.

Profar was 0-for-4 and struckout once, being the designated hitter for the Saguaros.

Switch-hitter Jurickson Profar is recovering from a shoulder-injury that has sidelined him the past two seasons. The 22-year old second baseman/short stop, who was the number one prospect in the Major League a few years ago, suffered a torn shoulder muscle during Spring Training in 2014 and underwent surgery in February of this year.

Profar made a memorable Major League-debut on September 2, 2012, while being with the Texas Rangers, as he homered in his first at bat in an 8-3 win vs. Cleveland Indians. In the 2013 season, Profar played in 85 Major League-games for the Rangers. He finished the season with a .234 batting average (67-for-286) with 11 doubles and six homeruns, scoring 30 runs and batting in 26.

The switch-hitter returned to action in August when he was assigned to the Hickory Crawdads, the Single-A team of Texas. There, he played in nine games, then was moved up to the Frisco RoughRiders (Double-A) and played three more games. After completion of the season, Profar continued playing in the Arizona Fall League, working on his recovery. While with the Surprise Saguaros, he played in 20 games, all as designated hitter. He batted .267 (20-for-75) with six doubles, one triple and two homeruns. Profar scored 11 runs and batted in 20.
