One run enough for UVV to secure big league-spot
Nederlands
VLEUTEN (Neth.) - UVV needed just one run to win on Saturday (August 22) vs. HCAW, which had opened the 3-game series last Thursday with a 9-5 victory. With the win, UVV secured itself of a spot in the big league for next seaon.

The lone (unearned) run of the game was scored in the fifth inning by UVV, which committed four defensive errors.

Timo van Ancum again threw a 9-inning complete game for UVV. He struckout 12 batters and gave up only three hits. A week ago, Van Ancum also pitched a 9-inning complete game vs. Mampaey The Hawks.

(August 22)

UVV scored the lone run in the game in the fifth inning. Norbert Jongerius led off with a double off of starter Sander Helmendach, then scored when next batter's Jamie Verheyleweghen's sacrifice bunt ended in a throwing error. The latter advanced to second base on the error and was left there.

In the first four at bats, UVV left another runner in scoring position. In the first inning, Joris van Ballegooy led off with a walk and stole second base, but then was eliminated in an inning-ending double play. In the third, Jamie Verheyleweghen led off with a single, moved on a grounder, but also stranded. UVV was retired in order in the second and fourth inning, before scoring in the fifth.

In the final three innings, UVV left four more runners. In the sixth, it got its lead-off batter on base again when Gilmer Lampe was hit by a pitch, but he was caught stealing. Hereafter, Dennis De Quint and Omar Williams both singled, but another double play followed. In the seventh, two batters reached with two outs, but were left behind. And in the eighth, another batter reached with one out, but stranded on first base.

HCAW left eight runners behind, including three in the top of the ninth inning. Five of these runners stranded in scoring position.

After leaving a runner on first base in the second inning, HCAW got close to scoring a run in the third at bat. Roy Seltenrijch led off with a single, then moved to third base when next batter Rossini Frolijk reached on an error. Hereafter, UVV-pitcher Timo van Ancum struckout Kevin Nieveld. The inning then ended when a strikeout ended in a double play. Van Ancum struckout Jelle Blaauw, then Frolijk was caught stealing.

In the fifth, HCAW got another runner on third base. With two outs, Max Clarijs walked, then reached second base safely when an error was made while he was caught stealing. Clarijs later moved to third on a wild pitch, but was left there.

Van Ancum retired the side in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning, then saw the minimal lead get into jeopardy in the ninth. He began with a strikeout, but then Roy Seltenrijch singled. With two outs, Kevin Nieveld reached on an error. After Seltenrijch advanced to third base on a wild pitch, the bases got loaded when Jelle Blaauw walked. But hereafter, Van Ancum ended the game by striking out Gianni Frolijk.
