Mark van Deursen, who was only used in relief this season, made his first start for DSS.
The righthander encountered no problems in the first two innings, but then gave up a run in the third at bat.
Kevin van Veen led off with a double, then moved on a grounder by Amir Daou and scored when an error was made on a grounder by Odion Gouverneur.
With two outs, Berend Ruben reached on a bunt-single, but the inning ended when Gouverneur was eliminated at third base trying to advance an extra base on the bunt.
In the fourth inning, Kevin Geestman, who normally is the closer for DSS, took over the pitching for Van Deursen.
He retired the side in the fourth, but gave up runs in the fifth and sixth at bat.
In the fifth, Julian Goins led off with an infield-hit, which was followed by a throwing error that enabled him to reach second base.
He then moved on a grounder.
Next, Amir Daou walked and a wild pitch moved the two runners, leading to a run.
Hereafter, Odion Gouverneur also walked.
With two outs, another wild pitch was uncorked, resulting in runners in second and third base, but they were left behind.
In the sixth, Max Ploegstra, who is a reliever in the DSS-staff, entered the game as new leftfielder for the Haarlem-squad.
In this at bat, The Hawks added a run, but also left two more runners.
With one out, Tim Roodenburg walked, then stole second base with two outs.
He then moved on a single by Julian Goins and scored on a following single by Kevin van Veen to make it 3-0.
In the seventh, lefthander Rik Geestman (normally a starter) relieved his brother Kevin Geestman.
He walked a batter, but he stranded on second base.
In the eighth, new pitcher Jorn van Ingen gave up a 2-out single to Goins, his third in the game, but a groundout then ended the inning.
DSS got several baserunners off of starter Quinn Tramm, but failed to score.
In the first inning, Mark Smit led off with a walk, but then was caught stealing.
A walk for Sven Jongejans followed, but he was left behind.
In the second, Levine Gabriëls led off with a single, but was eliminated in a double play.
In the third, DSS got close to opening the score.
With one out, Tommy van de Sanden singled, then Mark Smit doubled.
Van de Sanden was waved home, but was eliminated at the plate.
Smit advanced to third base on the throw, but then stranded.
In the next five at bats, DSS got no chances to score, as The Hawks turned two double plays.
DSS scored its lone run in the top of the ninth inning.
Lead-off hitter Mark Smit hit the ball into centerfield, where two errors were made, enabling him to reach third base.
He then scored when Max Ploegstra singled in his first at bat of the season.
That led to a pitching change.
Quinn Tramm was replaced by American lefthander Enoch Deaton, who was the starting pitcher in last Thursday's opener of the series against DSS.
He retired all three batters he faced to earn a save.
