Neptunus wins vs. Pioniers to stay alive
Nederlands
HOOFDDORP (Neth.) - Curaçao Neptunus won 7-3 vs. Vaessen Pioniers on Sunday (August 23) to win its series against the Hoofddorp-team.

By winning this series, Neptunus remains a contender for reaching the Holland Series. But to do so, the reigning Dutch champion has to sweep leader L&D Amsterdam Pirates in the final series next week, or otherwise finish ahead of Corendon Kinheim. Neptunus opened the Play-Offs losing the series to Kinheim, so in case of a tie, the latter will advance.

Neptunus collected 13 basehits today, including three by Christian Diaz and a homerun by Raily Legito.
Rookie Glenn Bakker hit three of the nine hits of Pioniers.

(August 23)

Neptunus initially trailed 3-0 after five innings, then came alongside and rallied for four runs in the seventh at bat to win.

In the first and second inning, Pioniers left a runner in scoring position, but then opened the score in the third off of starter Kenny Van Den Branden. Glenn Bakker led off with a single, then scored on a 2-out double by Danny Rombley.

Pioniers added two runs in the fourth inning, again with two outs. With one out, Quintin De Cuba singled, then Kevin Weijgertse walked with two outs. Next, Glenn Bakker doubled to bring in both runners and make it a 3-0 score.

In the remaining five innings, Pioniers was held scoreless, while Neptunus turned the game its way.

In the bottom of the fifth, with one out, Danny Rombley walked. Next, Vince Rooi doubled down the leftfield-line. While it appeared that Rombley had no chance of scoring, he was waved home. The ball was thrown to catcher Gianison Boekhoudt, who received the ball in time. Rombley ran into Boekhoudt, who was hit hard in the collission and briefly remained lying on the ground, but was able to continue the game.

Neptunus stranded two runners in the second inning off of Pioniers-starter Elton Koeiman. Another runner was left behind in the fourth when Pioniers turned a double play. After being retired in order for the second time in the fifth, Neptunus scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth to come alongside.

In the sixth, Dwayne Kemp led off with a single, then reached second base when a throwing error was made on a force play-grounder by Benjamin Dille. With one out, Gianison Boekhoudt delivered a runscoring single, then the two runners advanced moments later on a passed ball. Hereafter, a run was scored on a grounder by Christian Diaz and the score was tied when Stijn van der Meer followed with a single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Pioniers had a chance of re-taking the lead, but stranded three runners. With one out, Kevin Dirksen was hit by a pitch, Kevin Weijgertse singled, as did Glenn Bakker to load the bases. But they all were left behind when a flyout and groundout followed.

After Pioniers failed to score in the sixth, Neptunus struck with four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-3 lead. Urving Kemp and Shaldimar Daantji (bunt) singled, then a run was scored when a sacrifice bunt by Dwayne Kemp ended in a throwing error, that put runners on second and third base. With one out, Raily Legito drove the ball down the leftfield-line for a 3-run homerun to decide the game. It also led to a pitching change, as Reggie Bomberg took over. He walked Gianison Boekhoudt, but then two outs followed.

In the remainder of the game, no runs were added. Neptunus stranded a runner on second base in the eighth and got runners on second and third base with two outs in the ninth, but they also were left behind. Pioniers was held scoreless respectively by Berry van Driel, Kevin Kelly and Loek van Mil, who is still in the country waiting for his visa to leave for the USA.
