Former big league-player Joey Berkenbosch participates in MMA World Championship

PRAGUE (Czech Republic) -
Former big league baseball-player Joey Berkenbosch will represent the Netherlands on the World Championship Mixed Martial Arts for Amateurs, which will be held in the upcoming weekend in Czech capital Prague.
The firefighter is part of the Netherlands team, which will be coached by Gegard Mousasi and led by Bert Kops as the head of delegation.
The team will participate in several fights.
On Thursday (November 26), the registration, weight-in and medical control was done.
In the evening, the official drawing for the fights took place.
On Friday, the event will be officially opened at 10 AM, then the Qualification fights and Semi-Finals will take place throughout the day.
The Finals and Award Ceremony then will follow on Saturday-evening.
The World Mixed Martial Arts Association has more than 40 member-countries worldwide.
Mixed martial arts is a full-contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, from a variety of other combat sports and martial arts.
Joey Berkenbosch played several seasons in the Dutch baseball big league.
He made his debut in 2003, playing for Almere '90, where he also played in the highest division in 2004-2005 and in 2010.
In the 2007 season, he played for Amsterdam Pirates.
In the first two seasons in Almere and his season in Amsterdam, he was a teammate of his brother Kenny Berkenbosch, who still is the first baseman/designated hitter of L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
This year, Joey was player/coach at Almere '90, which finished in seventh place in the A-Pool of the First Division.
