AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
The European Association of Professional Baseball has announced that its first Winter Meeting, which was held on Friday, October 23, resulted in a decision to actually start the professional Euro League Baseball in 2016.
In a statement, the EAPB states that the decision was taken after discussions about the size and the length of the schedule.
The meeting concluded with the plan to shorten the season to three or four months and to limit the number of games to 18, having weekly 2-game series on Monday and Tuesday or Tuesday and Wednesday.
,,We’re very happy with the outcome of this important meeting where all teams showed their support for Euro League Baseball having its inaugural season in 2016'', EAPB-President Wim van den Hurk said.
The first-ever EAPB Winter Meeting was held last Friday in Amsterdam (Netherlands).
Nine teams were represented by their Presidents and/or General Managers.
In the Euro League Baseball, ten teams will play, coming from six different countries, being the Czech Republic (1), France (2), Germany (3), Italy (1), the Netherlands (2) and San Marino (1).
The Netherlands will be represented by Dutch champion Curaçao Neptunus and L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
The other participating teams are Fortitudo Bologna (Italy), Bonn Capitals, Haar-Munich Disciples, Regensburg Buchbinder Legionäre (all Germany), Draci Brno (Czech Republic), Rouen Huskies, Templiers Senart (both France) and T&A San Marino (San Marino).
In the original schedule, the ten teams would open the season on April 4 and would play 4-game series.
The games were scheduled to be played on Monday through Thursday and most teams would have a week off between series.
Each team would play a 36-game schedule.
A new game schedule will be presented soon.
