DSS was limited to only four basehits tonight, three off of starter Timo van Ancum, who struckout seven batters.
Two of those hits were registered in the first inning in which DSS got the bases loaded.
With one out, Sven Jongejans singled.
With two outs, Seb Visser also singled and the bases got loaded when Levine Gabriëls walked.
A pop-up ended the inning, leaving three runners behind.
In the remainder of the game, DSS didn't get into scoring position anymore.
Van Ancum retired the side in the second, third, fifth, seventh and eighth inning.
He would allow only two more batters to reach base.
In the fourth, he hit the lead-off batter with a pitch, but then picked him off first base moments later.
In the sixth, the righthander gave up an one-out single to Jongejans, but he stranded on first base.
After DSS had left the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, UVV reacted with two runs in its first at bat off of Max Ploegstra.
Lead-off hitter Joris van Ballegooy was hit by a pitch, then Gilmer Lampe singled.
The two moved on a grounder by Dennis De Quint, then a grounder by Omar Williams brought in the first run.
A double by Mike Bazuin made it 2-0.
In both the second and third inning, Ploegstra gave up a double.
In the second, Jamie Verheyleweghen doubled with one out, in the third, Omar Williams doubled with two outs.
Both stranded on second base.
In the fourth inning, UVV rallied for three runs to take more distance.
With two outs, Jamie Verheyleweghen was hit by a pitch, then scored on a following double by Dennis Ribbens.
The latter scored when next batter Joris van Ballegooy singled.
Shortly thereafter, Van Ballegooy stole second and scored when an error was made on a grounder by Gilmer Lampe.
Trailing 5-0, Alex Marcussen took over the pitching for DSS in the fifth inning and made his debut in the big league-squad.
With one out, he walked Tony Enos, then hit Norbert Jongerius with a pitch.
But the rookie gave up no runs, as a flyout and groundout ended the at bat.
Tim Halderman, who is a regular starter in the rotation of DSS, took over in the sixth inning and threw the final three innings for the Haarlem-squad.
He gave up UVV's sixth run in the seventh after the home team had left two runners in the sixth.
In the seventh, Tony Enos led off with a double, then moved on a grounder by Norbert Jongerius and scored on a grounder by Jamie Verheyleweghen.
In the top of the ninth, Van Ancum was relieved by Thijs Steenwijk, who has been used as starting pitcher in the last few weeks in the opening game of a new series.
He gave up a 2-out single to Seb Visser, but then ended the game with a strikeout.
