Doosan Bears one win away from Korean Series-title
Nederlands
SEOUL (South Korea) - The Doosan Bears are one win away from capturing the championship-title in the KBO League. On Friday (October 30), the Bears won 4-3 vs. defending champion Samsung Lions to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Korean Series.

The Lions have won the title in the past four seasons, but are now close to losing it. In 2013, the Lions also trailed 3-1 in the Korean Series, but then won the next three games to capture their third consecutive title. The opponent back then were.....the Doosan Bears. It was only Series in history in which a 3-1 deficit was turned around into a championship. 2013 was the first year in which Dutch pitcher Rick van den Hurk played for the Lions.

Game Five will be played on Saturday at Jamsil Stadium, the home of the Bears.

The Lions opened the Korean Series on Monday (October 26) at home with a 9-8 win. The next day, the Bears won Game Two with a 6-1 score to even the Series. On Thursday, the Bears took a 2-1 lead by winning 5-1.
Recaps first three games

Game Four on Friday was played again at Jamsil Stadium, which was the site of the 1982 World Baseball Championship, as well as the baseball-tournament of the 1988 Olympic Games in the South Korean capital.

The Lions got their first two batters on base in the first inning, but a double play and grounder ended the at bat.

The Bears then did score in their first at bat when they also got their first two batters to reach base. With runners on second and third base and one out, Hyun-soo Kim then lined the ball towards first, where first baseman Ja-wook Koo made a great play to eliminate the batter, but then a throwing error followed, leading to two runs.

Moments later, the Lions took over the lead by scoring three runs in the second inning. The first run was scored on a wild pitch. With runners on second and third base, it was the same Ja-wook Koo who delivered a 2-run single that gave the Lions a 3-2 lead.

The lead was shortlived, as the Bears came alongside in the bottom of the fourth inning. The tying run was scored on a double play-grounder by Eui-ji Yang.

The Bears then took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Soo-bin Jung and Kyoung-min Hur singled, which led to a pitching change. Reliever Woo-chan Cha was then greeted with a single by Byung-hun Min that brought in the go-ahead run.

Hereafter, the Lions left runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh inning. The team also stranded several runners in scoring position in Game Three. In the top of the ninth, the Lions got close to erase the deficit. Closer Hyun-seung Lee, who had come on in the previous at bat, gave up three singles with one out. But again, with the bases loaded, the Lions failed to score. First, there was a force out at the plate, then a grounder ended the game.
