On Monday, Van der Meer made his professional debut and went 1-for-3 in a 3-0 loss against the GCL Marlins (Miami Marlins).
Van der Meer singled in his first at bat and played together with wellknown Cuban National Team-player Yulieski Gurriel, who was promoted to Single-A Advanced earlier on Tuesday.
Van der Meer was drafted in the 34th round by the Astros on June 11 during the annual Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
At Roger Dean Stadium, the Astros played a double-header (two 7-inning games) on Tuesday at the GCL Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals).
Van der Meer didn't play in the first game, which ended in a 5-3 loss.
He then played in the second game, which also was lost, this time with a 4-3 score.
Despite the loss, Van der Meer, who batted second in the batting order, made a fine impression, as he went 3-for-3 and accounted for all three runs the Astros scored.
He scored one himself and batted in the other two.
Trailing 2-0, the Astros scored its first run in the third inning.
L.P. Pelletier led off with a single and stole second base.
With two outs, Pelletier moved on a passed ball, then scored on a single by Van der Meer, who also had hit a single in the first inning.
Van der Meer later advanced on another passed ball, but then was left behind.
The Cardinals took some more distance by scoring two runs in the fourth, one on a homerun by Tyler Lancaster, increasing the lead to 4-1.
In the sixth, the Astros narrowed the deficit to 4-3.
Edgar Lorenzo and Van der Meer then began the at bat with back-to-back triples to make it 4-2.
With two outs, Van der Meer scored the next run on a single by Randy Vasquez, who then stranded.
