Twins wins Mastenbroek Tournament with huge shutout

ENSCHEDE (Neth.) -
De Glaskoning Twins is the winner of this years 33rd edition of the annual, international J.C.J. Mastenbroek Tournament.
Twins, which will make its comeback this year in the Dutch big league, won the event thanks to a huge 17-0 shutout-win in the Final against Theo Meijer Quick Amersfoort.
It marks the first time that the Oosterhout-based team wins the tournament.
In the game for third and fourth place, DSS won 5-1 against host Tex Town Tigers.
Last year, DSS was the winner of the tournament.
Swiss champion Zürich Barracudas finished in fifth place after winning 9-6 against Alcmaria Victrix.
Josh Crouse of Barracudas was the tournament's Best Hitter with a .833 (5-for-6) batting average.
The regular season in the Dutch big league opens on Thursday, April 14.

Game 7 - Zürich Barracudas vs. Alcmaria Victrix
Swiss champion Zürich Barracudas finished in fifth place after coming from behind against Alcmaria Victrix and win 9-6.
Alcmaria opened the score in the top of the first inning.
With two outs, Michael Pluijmers walked, then Ludrick Pieter entered as pinch-hitter for Mika de Lincel, who left due to an injury.
Pieter delivered a single that brought Pluijmers to third base and he then scored on a wild pitch moments later.
The Barracudas answered with two runs in its first at bat.
Josh Crouse led off with a double and scored the tying run on a following single by Harry Wischnewski.
The latter stole second base, then scored later on a grounder by Tyler Wagner.
Alcmaria reacted with a 4-run rally in the second inning on only one basehit, as the Swiss defense committed three errors.
With that, all runs were unearned.
With two outs, which followed two errors, Marco Hogeland scored the tying run when Rob van de Kamer reached on another error.
A single by Ludrick Pieter then brought in he next two runs, then a wild pitch made it 5-2.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Barracudas came alongside.
With two outs, Sam Diener singled and Sascha Litscher walked, then Josh Crouse followed with a runscoring double and Harry Wischnewski added a 2-run single to make it 5-5.
Barracudas then struck with four runs in the bottom of the fourth off of new pitcher Rob van de Kamer.
The bases got loaded thanks to two walks and a hit batter, then a run was scored when Josh Crouse also was hit by a pitch.
Wishnewski followed with another 2-run single and a wild pitch lifted the lead to 9-5.
Alcmaria scored its final run in the sixth when Bram van der Laan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded with two outs.
But hereafter, the Alkmaar-squad left three runners behind.

Game 8 - Tex Town Tigers vs. DSS
DSS broke an 1-1 tie in the fourth inning and went on to win 5-1 against host Tex Town Tigers to finish in third place.
DSS opened the score in the first inning.
Melvin Perdue led off with a walk and stole second base.
The American then scored on an one-out single by Koen Halderman.
The Haarlem-squad was then held scoreless in the next three innings.
In the fourth, the team got the bases loaded when Ruben Prins led off with a single, Seb Visser walked and (with one out) Tommy van der Sanden singled.
However, they were all left behind.
DSS-starter Mike Groen started very strong.
He retired the first nine batters he faced, including six strikeouts.
The righthander then gave up the tying run in the fourth when he encountered some problems with his control.
Mikkel Oosterveld led off with a single, then Sam van der Ploeg was hit by a pitch and the bases got loaded when Thijs Brand walked with one out.
Oosterveld then scored when Andrew Kock walked with two outs, but three runners stranded.
DSS re-took the lead in the fifth when Koen Halderman scored on a 2-out double by Ruben Prins.
The Haarlem-team then added three runs in the sixth inning.
Menno Lenting led offf with a double, then scored when a throwing error followed on a bunt-single by Tommy van der Sanden.
Later in the at bat, Melvin Perdue delivered a runscoring single and a sacrifice fly by Lex Leijenaar lifted the lead to 5-1.
Gijs Timmer took over from Groen in the fifth and retired six of the seven batters he faced to earn a save.

Game 9 - Theo Meijer Quick Amersfoort vs. De Glaskoning Twins
De Glaskoning Twins registered a huge 17-0 shutout-victory in the final against Theo Meijer Quick Amersfoort to win the Mastenbroek Tournament for the first time.
Twins collected 16 basehits off of three pitchers, including three by Jarreau Martina, Dennis De Quint and newcomer Adrian Anthony.
The latter joined Twins just before the weekend and had a fine debut in his first game today.
Anthony last season played for Curaçao Neptunus, with whom he won the Holland Series, but now will play for Twins instead.
Twins-pitchers Justin Erasmus and Ben Van Nuffel threw a combined No-Hitter.
On Saturday, Van Nuffel also was part of a No-Hitter, which he then combined with fellow Belgian Cedric Desmedt.

Erasmus and Van Nuffel walked four batters.
In the first inning, Erasmus walked Wesley Bernardus, but the Australian hurler was then supported by a double play.
In the next at bat, the righthander walked Bas Nooij and Jos de Jong with one out, but two outs followed.
In the third, Van Nuffel walked Kevin Windster with one out, but he was later forced out.
Twins opened the score with three runs in the first inning.
Jarreau Martina led off with a single, advanced on a passed ball, then scored when a grounder by Bart Hanegraaff ended in a throwing error.
Later in the at bat, runs were added on a double by Dennis De Quint and a grounder by Berry van Donselaar.
Twins then rallied for eleven runs on ten basehits in the second at bat in which 16 batters stepped up to the plate.
In the inning, Jarreau Martina and Dennis De Quint both singled twice.
The first eight batters reached base safely, seven of them with a basehit.
After the first five batters had reached base, Aaron Isenia took over the pitching, but was greeted with a 2-run single by Jeffrey Arends, followed by a 2-run single by Berry van Donselaar.
With one out and the bases loaded, Shurty Tremus added a 2-run double, followed by a 2-run single by Martina.
With runners on first and second base, Jos de Jong became the third pitcher in this at bat.
He got a force play-grounder, then followed with a strikeout to end the long inning.
Twins scored three more runs in the third inning.
Adrian Anthony led off with a homerun and Nick Peels later added a 2-run single to lift the lead to 17-0.
