Amsterdam Pirates wins in tie-break against HCAW
Nederlands
BUSSUM (Neth.) -
The first two games between L&D Amsterdam Pirates and HCAW rained out in Amsterdam.
The third meeting in Bussum on Sunday (July 3) started an hour later than scheduled due to rain, then also needed an extra inning to come to a decision.
Amsterdam Pirates led only 2-0 in the ninth inning, but then HCAW came alongside in the home half of the at bat to force a tie-break.
That spoiled a fine outing by Amsterdam-starter Robin Schel, who had given up only one basehit in the 7 2/3 inning he had pitched.
In the top of the tenth inning, Pirates got the bases loaded, then Kenny Berkenbosch delivered a 3-run double that decided the game.
Amsterdam, which collected only six basehits, went on to win 5-3.
The game saw the return behind the microphone of HCAW's Public Address Announcer Dieks Bannink, who was on the 'disabled list' the past few weeks with back-problems.
Welcome back, Dieks!
