AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
L&D Amsterdam Pirates briefly trailed 1-0 on Thursday-evening (August 4), but went on to win 5-3 against Curaçao Neptunus to open their final 3-game series of the regular season.
With the win, Amsterdam claimed second place in the Overall Standings, which means the squad will play at home in the first two games of the opening series of the Play-Offs against Vaessen Pioniers on August 11.
Pioniers tonight shutout Pickles UVV, but will finish in third place because of the Amsterdam-win.
Neptunus opened the score tonight with one run in the second inning, but Amsterdam answered with three runs in the third at bat.
A single by Gilmer Lampe (who was 3-for-4) tied the score, then a fielder's choice-grounder and a sacrifice fly gave the home team a 3-1 lead.
Amsterdam added two unearned runs in the seventh when the Neptunus-defense committed two errors.
A single by Kenny Berkenbosch and a basesloaded hit batter for Remco Draijer brought in the runs.
Neptunus narrowed the deficit to 5-3 by scoring twice in the eighth on a singles by Gianison Boekhoudt and Dashenko Ricardo.
Neptunus then stranded two runners and was retired in order in the ninth with closer Tom de Blok ending the game with two strikeouts.
