Pioniers shuts out UVV

VLEUTEN (Neth.) -
Vaessen Pioniers registered a big 9-0 shut-out-win against Pickles UVV on Thursday-evening (August 4) in the opener of its final 3-game series of the regular season..
With the win, Pioniers moved into a tie for first place in the second half of the season with Curaçao Neptunus.
However, in the Overall Standings, the team will finish in third place, due to the win of L&D Amsterdam Pirates tonight against Neptunus.
Pioniers now will open its first series of the Play-Ofs next week at Amsterdam Pirates, which claimed second place.
Pioniers struck early tonight off of American pitcher Matt Erickson, scoring five runs in the first two innings.
Erickson gave up 11 basehits and seven runs.
UVV registered only one basehit off of two pitchers.
Pioniers-starter Lars Huijer had another strong outing and became the second 10-game winner of the 2016 season.
The righthander struckout 13 batters, walked only one and gave up the lone UVV-basehit with two outs in the first inning to Omar Williams.
Hereafter, he retired the next eleven batters in a row.
Jonah Van Bemmelen threw the final two innings for Pioniers.
Pioniers collected 15 basehits, including three by Shurman Marlin.
