HCAW vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates
Before today's game, there was some sunshine, which created some pleasant moments.
However, it got cloudier during the game and with that, the temperatures dropped and with that, it got colder.
During the game, the wind chill factor dropped to four degrees Celsius (39 Fahrenheit).
But, the teams managed to play eight innings and there first game is in the books.
Amsterdam Pirates batted with nine players, while HCAW had twelve in its batting order.
Also, all pitchers threw only one inning.
As Pirates had six pitchers available, HCAW batted only six times.
HCAW used eight pitchers and with that, Amsterdam had eight at bats.
Amsterdam appeared to open the score right away in the first inning when it got the bases loaded off of starter Kaj Timmermans.
With one out, Michael Duursma and newcomer Gilmer Lampe singled.
After Duursma moved to third base on a flyout on foul territory by Danny Rombley, another newcomer in the Amsterdam line-up, Lampe stole second base.
The bases got loaded when Remco Draijer walked, but the three runners stranded when next batter Kenny Berkenbosch grounded out.
Amsterdam Pirates then did open the score in the top of the third inning off of Marco Schel.
With one out, Lampe reached on a bunt-single, but was forced out on a following grounder by Rombley.
The latter then scored when Draijer doubled.
Berkenbosch added a single, but two runners were then left behind.
In the top of the fourth inning, Amsterdam scored three unearned runs with two outs off of Ian Delemarre to lift the lead to 4-0.
With one out, Linoy Croes singled and Nick Urbanus walked.
They advanced on a grounder by Michael Duursma.
A following grounder by Gilmer Lampe then ended in a throwing error and a run.
The bases got loaded when Danny Rombley walked and Remco Draijer followed with a 2-run single to give him three runs batted in today.
In the final four innings, Amsterdam reached base only two more times off of four relievers, both times on an error.
Sander Helmendach pitched the last inning for HCAW and struckout three batters.
HCAW reached third base twice, but was unable to score.
Roy Berrevoets made his comeback as Head Coach today.
He already led the squad in 2007 and 2008, but was named as new Head Coach for the upcoming season only a week ago.
His coaching staff has yet to be named, but today, he was assisted by Roeland Henrique, Sr..
Today, the team played without veteran Vince Rooi, who was sick.
Rooi is one of the newcomers in the team.
Last season, he played for Vaessen Pioniers.

In the bottom of the first inning, off of Amsterdam-starter Kevin Heijstek, former Pirate Roelie Henrique led off with a double.
He moved on an one-out grounder by Julian Goins, also a newcomer in the Bussum-team, but then was left behind.
Henrique was the first of five lead-off hitters to reach base for HCAW, which batted six times.
In the second, lead-off hitter Kevin Nieveld reached on an error off of Kyle Ward, who then followed with three strikeouts.
In the third inning, Dennis Burgersdijk retired the side, but in the fourth, HCAW reached base twice off of Tom de Blok.
He walked lead-off hitter Dalvin Kortstam.
With one out, the rookie moved when Rossini Frolijk reached on an error, but then Julian Goins grounded into a double play.
In the fifth, off of Robin Schel, Kevin Weijgertse (who also played for Pioniers last season) reached on an error and Kevin Nieveld singled.
Nieveld's hit was the second and last for HCAW in this game.
Hereafter, Raoell Kortstam grounded into a double play.
Weijgertse advanced to third base, but stranded.
In the sixth, Marciano Philippi led off with a walk off of Daan Hendrix, but he was later forced out.
