DSS vs. Kinheim
DSS played a good game today and went on to register its first win of the season after having lost its first nine games in a row.
Rookie pitcher Donny Breek threw six solid innings for DSS.
The 16-year old righthander saw Kinheim get five runners in scoring position, but held the squad scoreless.
After having retired the side in the first inning, he gave up an one-out double to Dudley Leonora in the second, but then closed with two strikeouts.
DSS left runners on second and third base in the bottom of the second inning off of Luis Figuera Roman.
The Venezuelan had retired the first five batters he faced, but then walked Joffrey Heus, followed by a double by Sven van der Sanden, but they stranded.
DSS then rallied for three runs in the third at bat when Figuera issued three walks and gave up two hits.
With one out, the righthander walked Ryan Miner, then gave up a single to Menno Lenting.
The latter was eliminated on a grounder by Koen Halderman, which brought Miner to third base.
A walk for Melvin Perdue loaded the bases, then all runners advanced on a wild pitch, which gave DSS its first run.
The bases got loaded again when Figuera also walked Mitchel Koot.
Joffrey Heus followed with a 2-run single that made it 3-0 favor of the home team.
From that moment on, DSS controlled the game and gave up only one run in the eighth inning when it was leading 5-0.
Kinheim left runners on second and third base in the top of the fourth, then another one on third base in the fifth.
DSS turned a double play in the fifth, then Julio Hernandez walked, stole second base and moved on a wild pitch, but stranded.
DSS added two runs in the sixth.
With one out, Joffrey Heus singled.
He then scored on a triple with two outs by Seb Visser, who himself was able to score when a throwing error followed.
DSS led 5-0 when Max Ploegstra relieved Breek in the top of the seventh.
He got two baserunners in the eighth.
With one out, Bryan Engelhardt walked.
A week ago, the veteran went on to steal second and third base, which then led to a turn-around in the game against Vaessen Pioniers, as he scored and Kinheim went on to win.
Now, he again stole second and third base and went to score on a following single by Dudley Leonora, but that was to be it for Kinheim today.
With Leonora on first base, Kevin Geestman took over the pitching.
He saw Leonora advance on a wild pitch and passed ball.
The passed ball was ball-four to Niels van Weert, who stole second base moments later, but Kinheim again left two runners in scoring position.
DSS tried to add an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh off of new pitcher Nick Veltkamp.
After Kinheim had turned a double play, Koen Halderman and Melvin Perdue singled.
Halderman then tried to score on a single by Mitchel Koot, but was eliminated at the plate.
In the top of the ninth, with two outs, Geestman hit Julia Hernandez with a pitch.
He was replaced by pinch-runner Thomas Bos, who stole second base.
But he stranded there, as Geestman ended the game with a strikeout to secure the first win of the season.
